The kind-hearted Claire was having doubts about punching something so small and cute like Bitesisle but once she gets slugged by a Focus Punch enforced with an Ancient Powered jump I'm sure she'll give a proper beating to the little steel pokemon. Or run away because it's getting too messy.Mosconi decided to unleash a Bounce attack hopping above his foes only to be met mid-air by the Ancient Power-propelled Shadowstride who, as always looking out for Bites' back, cuts in with a successful Confuse Ray.
Meanwhile in the trainer's areas, Archie is getting very excited to the dismay of an unamused James.

I imagine Archie would be all happy and excited even if his pokemon weren't up for a good start like here. You know. He's just havin' fun.
UNLIKE JAMES WHO DOESN'T APPROVE OF BEING POSITIVE ABOUT ANYTHING GAWD HIS FACE MUST BE PERMANENTLY STUCK IN THAT BITCHY DISMISSIVE EXPRESSION.
At which point I would like to stress that James can, in fact, experience other emotions besides irritation. The circumstances just sort of called for the disgruntled look, so... yeah.
And yes, James sometimes takes off his fedora. Like. When he can't find it.
I'm not entirely satisfied with the trainer shots (I like the double-battle scene, thankfully) but I can't put my finger on what's wrong with them. Can anyone help me with this? Any suggestions? That would greatly help! I still have some time before the deadline in which I could correct any mistakes I didn't catch on my own!
Thanks for the tips! I re-sized the trainer shots and, while they still take up a lot of frame-space (especially James who's upright pose obscures the background), I think it's not so... suffocating anymore, if I can call it that way. x) I also tweaked the colors up and they look better now imo.
When it came to Clair and Mosconi, I took their body build from the official Ken Sugimori arts and game sprites while their markings or special traits I took from OnlyLookin's Reference sheet.
I wasn't quite sure about Archie's hair. I finally took the fullbody ref version where it was all curly 'n went and made it look like popcorn hair WUT.
I took the "more background" note from the critique of my first battle to heart only to obscure everything in rocks and dust. So smart of me. orz

Aw, sorry Mang, I don't think I'll be actively battling in the IPL anytime soon, I'm currently in the finals of #GlobalBattleUnion 's Grand Prix, Round 3 of #bigskycarnival and auditioning for ~PCBC 3. If I have time for a battle I'll be getting to pending challenges I've been getting over the course of the last couple months first, then looking for new battles if I'm still up for it.

i love this so much ffffffffff it's so full of action and your coloring is just WONDERFUL. especially the lighting from all the different sources.

I'd say James has a bitchy and dismissive expression because he can't find his beloved fedora and he can't use his Murkrow as an alternative hat.

That battle scene in the middle is SO AMAZING. Ummm. I don't really know how to crit the side panels but I'll try! I think maybe the problem you're seeing is that there's not really enough negative space?? Like, for example James is kind of almost filling out that whole panel and I don't know if it would be more likeable to you if there was more space there? Other than that I think this looks GREAT.

I re-sized the trainers but I'm afraid they still take up a bunch of space (especially James that fatass >:I) due to how narrow I had to make the trainer panels (if they were wider they'd sort of take the focus off of the center battle picture). Maybe if I have the time I'll just re-draw the two (not sure if I'll have now, though, even with a one-day extension).

hoooooolycrap. this is so cool, I love the trainer panels and the way you drew archie, mosconi and claire is absolutely fantastic! You made archie appropriately ecstatic and claire and mosconi look so in sync in the double battle frame, WHICH IS EPIC BTW.
I am so glad I didn't end up using mosconi and claire vs Bitesisle and Shadowstride. Cause it woulda been the second mind melf where me and the opponent used the same pokemon ahhh, AND I SHOULD BE FINISHED SOON OK : D. ohcrap though I wouldn't know how to win against this!

Hmm, I sat there for a while and tried to figure out if anything did look weird. The only thing I can think of is that the guy on the rights pants look a little half done.
It is the same -to lesser degrees- with other areas on the two of them with regards to the highlights, but its not so bad in other areas. (Though there is room for improvement, I guess.)
I know it might be more a matter of style, but you can could try adding some texture to your painting. Like show more of the fabric of their clothes rather than just colour. But yes, that particular thing can be more about style. Some people get on fine without much texture.
So yes, to rap it up, the main thing I reckon you could fix is the guy on the rights pants.
