Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, on rare occasion of complete cooperation
In canon stories, between "The Final Problem" and "The Empty House" Mycroft was the only person who knew Sherlock didn't die in fight with Moriarty. I always wondered if they worked together figuring how to catch Moriarty's accomplices. So this is what they're doing here (BBC-style). Фантазия по мотивам. Большой брат ныкает младшенького, и вместе коварные Холмсы планируют ловушки для подельников Мориарти. А Джон, Лестрад и миссис Хадсон где-то там оплакивают якобы утонувшего в Рейхенбахском бассейне Шерлока.Апдейт: окей, это был не бассейн, это оказалась крыша.

There are two rings here 'cos of Mark Gatiss, who often wears them on both hands.

Well, Mark Gatiss is married in real life, so he probably refused to take his wedding ring off even for filming.
I know one other actor who did that in his roles too back in the 60's.

Mark Gatiss says he wears a ring, but it's not a wedding one. Maybe he's a widower.
There are two rings on the picture because Gatiss wears them in real life, I was thinking about him when drawing it, and it doesn't have anything to do with the situation.

Этимологию имени "Майкрофт", насколько я знаю, точно установить не удалось. То ли что-то очень кельтское, то ли от "My Croft"="Моя усадьба", то ли просто автор резвился. У него ж Холмсы оба не от мира сего, человеческие имена им носить не пристало...
Фамилия "Mycroft", кстати, существует, если верить Википедии.

Мда... насчёт имён точно... Почему-то вспомнился отрывок из книги, в которой фигурирует образ Шерлока Холмса (правда, не помню, из какой). Там он произносит такую вещь: "Я хотел бы стать человеком, но ведь те, кому предстоит родиться, уже носят имена, которыми их назовут. А кто назовёт ребёнка таким именем, как моё? Так только собак называют..." Обидно.
