Is that a dewclaw on the wrist area?

It's a little pad of flesh - it should actually be on the other side, but I thought it might be handy there.

Oh, so that's actually part of the wrist then, not a remnant of a digit?

I tried (and failed) to draw a similar hand study in a species diagram I did of a race of canine humanoids that are in a story I'm writing. How do you belieavable species hands? *sigh* These look realistic and believable...mine look stupid. XD;

I believe I was inspired by seeing an x-ray of a cat's paw.

Wow. This is exactly what I thought the dragons in one of my worlds would have. Excluding the fur, of course. I wanted intelligent dragons that could manipulate objects, while still being quadrupedal and sufficiently scary. I mean, who's afraid of a dragon with nails instead of claws?.
I have also been considering a single, hoof-like walking digit, much like Iguanodon had, with more dexterous, small digits around it, but the huge digit might be a bit clumsy.

A huge digit that could hyperflex backwards out of the way might work.

This reminds me of the sort of claws that the expanded universe star wars says that wookies have.

It makes me want to do a costume for one of the furry cons. The detail is incredible. And, one could probably make a set of paw-hands that work the way yours do.
BTW, you've solved the paw-claw-hand problem that has plagued many anthro artists for years. I'm blown away.
You need to get your stuff in a magazine, like Discovery or National Geographic, or work in a museum, or do concept drawings for film special effects.
And, if the Ratha series is re-issued, I want you to do the covers.
I hope this doesn't overwhelm you, but your talent overwhelms me.
I'm just blown away...

And I meant to add, drawing Ratha covers? Overwhelming is an understatement! I almost fell off the chair. You realize that's a childhood dream XD

I've always wanted to build a fursuit - it is the perfect combination of wanting attention yet being cripplingly shy.
I have to admit I usually cheat and draw fingers with two joints and retractable claws, although that bugs the science geek in me. I like the idea of retractable fingertips because they could be incredibly sensitive, remaining protected inside the skin folds most of the time. My cats do pretty well with just claws so it's an interesting extrapolation. You could even use something like this for a sapient quadruped since the retracted fingetips wouldn't need clumsy pads or develop calluses.
BTW have yo ever considered a Ratha graphic novel?

Your imagination coupled with your knowledge of animal anatomy and musculature puts you far beyond most of the speculative paleo-artists I know. As far as I am concerned, you are right up there with Mauricio Anton, Mark Hallet and others. The mark of genius is making it look easy, which you do.

Thank you so much - they're both pretty much art gods!
