Making the knotworks in the work gave me an huge pain in the right hand, back and neck problems for a week due to the constant circling movements when making a knotwork hehe.

Hel/Hela is the Norse goddess of the underworld and of death, residing Helheim. People tend to think of her as an evil and terrifying deity, but she is a very powerful goddess whose work is of great importance, she doesn't just takes care of the souls of the dead, but also helps those in suffering from depression or some sort of trauma that holds people and doesn't let them live. She usually appears as hald beautiful and half rotten, a test to your mind if you are able to accept those with some deformity, for we tend to put aside people like that, away from our social space and tend to hid them, when all we have to do is accept them and love them the way they are and treat them with respect. Hel also appears as a perfectly beautiful woman, welcoming the dead into their new homes. When christianity came to Europe, Hel and Helheim was seen as a place of great misery and sorrow, and thus the Christian Hell took form, but in truth, it is one of the most beautiful places of the Nine worlds from the Norse cosmology, filled with gardens, cosy wooden and stone houses, orchards, and vast forests where it is always autumn.

In this drawing i didn't want to make Hel as it is often seen or talked about, i wanted to gave her a normal look of a woman, but with the light coming from above and make a shadow on her face to look like a skull, to give her that mysterious appearance.

Cool, the pose, clothing folds and hair create a look that kinda has a decrepit/decayed look to it without resorting to actual zombie parts, but still preserves a degree of beauty, esp. the unkempt, solemn sort.Β

Just generally awesome works with the shadows.Β

They used to have more of a "regular place" and "a special place for the exceptionally badass" than the classic "good vs bad place" approach of the judeochristian tradition, it was generally more of an order vs chaos thing, AFAIK.Β

Why did you not make the right leg skeletal? This is beautiful. Reminds me of the artwork from More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I won't favorite it because it will creep me out too bad, but let that be a compliment to you.Β I'm following your page now.

Thank you so much for the watch and the support. You really liked this work? Well i didn't want to make a drawing of her in a half skeletal form because that is how she is too often portrayed, instead i wanted to show the other side of her which is also talked about in Norse Mythology, but not that often, a beautiful normal woman who welcomes in her domains those who are in need of help, who may suffer from trauma, depression, fears, or any other kind of psychological problems. Even so, i wanted to place the light in the drawing from above, to make that kind of shadow in her face to look like a skull shape to remind of her 2 sides hehe. Once again, thank you so much for the support!

This looks like it could be a Tarot card image. Love the Goddess, and the borders, including the extra design at the bottom.

Wonderful work.

I really like the whole concept in your drawing; the Celtic knot background and how you create Goddess Hel as well how dark and hollow she is with the dramatic shadings.

Keep up the good work.

I could see how it's hard to draw the Celtic knots, it's soooo complex.Β  However you really did an amazing job on them.

It's a good picture, but no one will appreciate the fact that you're stealing their work. Do it more discretely next time or at least reference them appropriately. lord-fsan.deviantart.com/art/T…

You should at least check out what you are acusing me of before speaking, I used a reference photo to do this artwork, just like that work you just linked did but thanks, I wanted to find the author of the photo and thanks to you I did!

Yeah, now that's a lot better. I just knew a picture that looked kinda the same and it wouldn't have been ok if you used that one. When it's stock, it's fine and now that there's a link in the description, it's all fine. Keep drawing and have fun!
