Description ...Of the cult, he said that he thought the centre lay amid the pathless deserts of Arabia, where Irem, the City of Pillars, dreams hidden and untouched...
H.P Lovecraft - The call of Cthulhu

...Very gorgeous are the descriptions given of Irem, the City of Pillars (as the Koran styles it) supposed to have been erected by Shedad, the latest despot of Ad, in the regions of Hudramaut, and which yet, after the annihilation of its tenants, remains entire, so Arabs say, invisible to ordinary eyes, but occasionally, and at rare intervals, revealed to some heaven-favoured traveller.
From "Arabia" Encyc. Britan. II-255:

I read something like that in a Daniel Easterman book (The Seventh Sanctuary?)

Given the two differing descriptions of Irem, I don't know how I would feel if I found it - lucky, or badly scared.
