Description Despite being formidable predators themselves even posing a serious danger towards humans, particularly children, a Kappa’s early life is quite fragile despite it’s frivolity and cunning nature. Precocial at birth most species of kappas are completely independent and able to survive on their own immediately after hatching. Kappa females return to the rivers from which they hatched. They will lay their eggs in large mounds made of leaf litter and other organic debris. These mounds tend to be inland as to avoid the ever changing river levels and rainy season flash floods. All Kappa chicks are born with a cranial embryonic sac which houses the nourishment and vital water it needs for it’s, sometimes week long, journey to it’s river. Kappa chicks are a favorite of the Tengu and Kitsune, many of which will be picked off and never make it to their destination because so. The cranial sac will provide the energy needed to fuel their little bodies across the obstacle laden forest floor. For those who do not deplete their embryonic sacs, they can also be used as a floating device  during needed swimming breaks or while building up their leg and arm muscles.

I had a similar idea. My kappa had gills in the hollow in its head, so when it left its watery habitat to travel over land, it could stay breath out of water for a little while due to the water in the hollow. And when it had a baby, it kept its egg, which had to be kept damp, in the hollow when out of the water.

Thanks! I don't know. I tend to mini (mini) series with reoccurring themes, this case the kappa, but I'm not sure how many I will do.

Well it would make a very interesting series, like a national geographic of mythical creatures Have you got a Gumroad by chance? Tutorials etc?

I was thinking of making a book of just that! I don't have a Gumroad or tutorials unfortunately but my methods are nothing special and pretty standard.

Why not! I wanted to do something similar myself. Do you do a combination of painting and photo blending to get your textures?
