Description #8 – KIDA, THE WILD ONE

You sit in the kitchen with Jane, Kristoff, and Anna while the doctor goes to work in the next room. Calhoun and her marines are in the living room and upper floor keeping watch.

The minutes tick by awfully slowly. You alternate staring at the kitchen tiles and staring at the kitchen cabinets. Anna has her head gently resting on Kristoff's shoulder, who holds an arm around her. Jane sits with her legs crossed on the kitchen counter. An intolerable amount of time later, Dr. Sweet opens the door into the room as he takes off a pair of bloody gloves.

All four of you rush towards him, startling the man. He throws his gloves into the sink and holds up his hands at you all. "Whoah, whoah. Calm down."

"How is she, doctor?" Anna exclaims. "Is my sister okay?"

"She's fine, just got a bit of a bump on her head. A hot cup of coffee and an aspirin should fix her right up."

"And Kim?" you ask.

"Right as rain," Joshua says with a wide smile.

"But the medic said she was dying."

"He's a marine, they like to screw with civvies. Turns out her suit's made out of Kevlar. A few bullet fragments managed to penetrate it, but I fished them out. She's got a punctured lung and four broken ribs, but I have a feeling she's the kind of woman that gets over that kinda stuff quick. They're both conscious, so--"

He's tossed to the side as the four of you rush into the room. "Hey, hey! Be gentle with them!" he shouts after you.

You all crowd around Elsa and Kim, who are lying in two twin-sized beds by the side of the room. The medic, who was acting as the doctor's assistant, cleans up a ad-hoc medical table nearby. The wounded marine lies in a separate bed on the other side of the room, and looks over at the new crowd. "I'm okay, too. Thanks for asking," he snidely comments.

"Quit your bitching. You barely got grazed. Go report to master sergeant," the medic says to the marine as he takes several pieces of equipment outside. The marine shoots back with several colorful expletives, but complies and leaves the room.

Anna, in the meantime, goes in to hug Elsa with tears in her eyes. "I was so worried," she says, laughing in relief.

"Oh, please," Elsa says cheerfully. "Just a bonk on the head. At least I didn't wake up in the castle dungeon this time. If there was anyone you should've worried about, it's Kim over there. There was...a lot of blood."

Kim lets out a snort and waves a hand in Elsa's direction. "Please, it's just a flesh wound." She then looks at you. "Though I think I have you to thank that it remained just a flesh wound."

You chuckle nervously. "Really, I didn't do much."

Anna and Kristoff go up to Kim and introduces themselves. "I don't think we know who you are," Kristoff says.

"Kim Possible, Disney Intelligence Agency. I was tasked with protecting Mr. Coat over here," Kim responds.

Right then, Joshua comes in with his trademark smile, interrupting the reunion. "Sorry to disturb this one big happy family, but I think it's time these two got some rest."

"Alright," Anna says, and hugs her sister one more time before leaving hand-in-hand with Kristoff. Jane follows them after imparting a proper English farewell. As you turn to leave yourself, Elsa stops you.

"Wait," she says. "I think we need to talk."

You turn around. "Yeah, I suppose we do."

Joshua attempts to intervene, but is cut short by what can only be described as Elsa's regal authority. The doctor shrugs and leaves the room. Once the door shuts behind him, you pull up a chair next to Elsa. She looks uncertainly over at Kim, but you assuage her doubts: "Don't worry. She can be trusted."

Elsa looks back over at you. "Did I kill you?" she asks, bluntly.

You're taken aback by her candidness. You decide the truth is the best answer. "According to various eyewitnesses, yes. Yes, you did."

Elsa closes her eyes and lets out a deep sigh. She mutters something under her breath, but you can't hear it. After a few seconds, she looks back at you and asks, "How do you feel about that?"

"Well," you say, "Not that great. In fact, I can say that I was pretty damn pissed when I first found out about it."

"Do you hate me?"

You're surprised by her words. You try to find the right thing to say. "I...uh..."

"Tell me the truth. Do you hate me?"

"No, I don't hate you!" You stand up and raise your arms in exasperation. "I--I don't know what to feel right now. Maybe it was the alcohol, or the desperation, but I really liked you in that club. And I still like you now. I mean--" Something catches in your throat. You clear it. "I mean, in a purely professional manner of course. But you can't deny that you caused me a LOT of grief."

There's a melancholy in Elsa's eyes that hits you in your core. "No, I can't," she says in a soft voice.

Your uncertainty and aggravation melts into sympathy at these words. "But!" You sit back down in the chair next to Elsa. "But, we still have time to make everything right. Disney brought me back to save you. Now that I have, you can save me."

Elsa turns her head away. "I can't."

"What do you mean you can't? Disney's guys told me you could."

"This happened before, John." Elsa looks back at you, and you see tears in her eyes. Frustration, anxiety, fear: you can see these emotions glistening in those droplets.

You remember that moment back at the palace. Anna's expression when she heard Elsa had froze your heart. "It was Anna, wasn't it?" you softly ask.

Elsa nods quietly. "Look. I can't thaw a frozen heart, no matter how powerful my powers are. Only you can do that."

"What, that act of true love thing Kristoff was talking about?"

"Yes. My sister broke the curse when she sacrificed her own life to save me. Maybe you don't have to die for your act of true love, but..." Elsa is interrupted when Calhoun opens the door and shouts out your name.

"John!" she barks. "We've got a plan. Get out here." And just as quickly as she came in, she leaves.

You turn back to Elsa, trying to think of what to say, but she seems to understand. "Go on. It's fine. We can talk later."

You nod appreciatively and leave the room.

Joshua and Calhoun takes you out of the door. "We'll explain on the way. Come on," Calhoun orders.

As the three of you wind through the back streets of Arendelle to avoid the occupying troops, Joshua gives you the briefing. "I'm part of a crew that specializes in providing certain invaluable skills to aid a...oh screw it. We're mercenaries. But we also have no love for this new regime. We'll help you get out of here, and do some damage in the process. I'm taking you to our leader right now."

The three of you stop in front of what looks to be a club. "The Lost World?" you mutter as you look up at the sign.

"It was HER idea," Joshua grunts, and enters. You go in after him, while Calhoun checks their flanks before following suit.

The club has an obvious aquatic theme. The transparent floor stands right above a pool of brightly lit water, and the bar at the center is surrounded by lights in various shades of blue, cyan, and teal. Joshua leads you through a small throng of people to a VIP room.

Once inside, the first thing you notice is an exotic, brown-skinned woman with brilliant white hair. She's not wearing more than a tube top, sarong, and a pair of high heels. She lounges in her chair with a drink filled with unknown liquor. You then notice the four other strangers in the room.

Joshua goes up to the white-haired woman and introduces you and Calhoun to her. She then walks up to you and extends a hand. "My name is Kida," she says as she shakes both your hand and Calhoun's. She then introduces the other around her: Gaetan "Mole" Moliére, a plump stout Frenchman who specializes in mining and all things dirt, Vincenzo "Vinnie" Santorini, a tall, mustachioed Italian whose one passion is high explosives, and Audrey Ramirez, a feisty young Mexican with a knack for all things mechanical. "And, of course, this is Milo Thatch, my boyfriend." A scrawny bespectacled man waves at you from the back of the room.

How did someone like--you know what? Never mind. You don't really care anymore.

"We have a plan to free this city," Kida continues. "Will you help us?"

You nod. Calhoun agrees. "Just tell us what to do, ma'am," she says.

* * *

You and Calhoun stand overwatch on top of a building by the docks. Calhoun looks through the scope of her suppressed Mk 11 Mod 0 DMR while you scan the area with a pair of binoculars. You feel something pushing into your leg and look down. The HK416 assault rifle Calhoun had given you is pressing into your leg as you crouch. You move it to a better position.

Your radio cackles to life. "This is Kida. Ulysses 1 has passed the outer perimeter, over," it says.

Two seconds later, another voice: "This is Milo. Ulysses 2 is in the pipe also, over."

In the bay, deep underwater, two midget submarines quietly glide towards the distant hull of Roy Oliver. Kida, Mole, and Vinnie occupy the first, while Milo, Audrey, and Joshua occupy the second. Vinnie checks over a pair of limpet mines in the limited space of the submarine.

Back on land, Calhoun responds. "Ulysses 1 and Ulysses 2 in the net. Overseer copies. Fire team 1, Fire team 2. Begin distraction, over."

Anna responds over the radio. "Alrighty! Setting off the fireworks!" A few hundred feet away, Calhoun's marines, Amelia, Anna, and Kristoff begin launching mortars at the far side of the bay away from the submarines. The explosives land in the water with massive booms.

Even from this distance, alarms from the three ships in the water can clearly be heard. The two patrolling boats move towards where the mortars hit.

Calhoun gets back on the radio. "Jane, what's the status of our ride?"

Down in the docks, Jane furiously whispers into her radio, "I almost got it, just give me a minute!" She puts the radio down and turns around to the pair of Disney soldiers guarding the ramp to Kerchak. "As I was saying, good gentlemen, this is MY ship. So please, STAND ASIDE, so that I may board, and be on my merry way."

"Ma'am, this ship is under lockdown by Commander Langdon's orders. You can take it up with him," the soldier replies tersely.

Jane is about to respond in a most inappropriate way, but a hand on her shoulder stops her. She looks around to see Elsa. "Don't worry, Jane," says the latter. "I can handle this."

Elsa steps up to the two soldiers. "Stand back, ma'am," one of them orders. She cocks her head slightly and smiles.

Meanwhile, you're hard at work spying the Roy Oliver. Suddenly, you spot a disturbance in the water as one of the midget submarines surface right next to the hull of the battleship. "They're in, they're in!" you yell excitedly. You see the other one rise further to the bow of the ship. the hatches open, and the crews of each submarine carefully attach the limpet mines just below the waterline.

"Limpet mines are attached and timers are activated," says Milo through the radio. "We're...oh, crap--!"

"What's wrong?" Calhoun asks, but there's no answer. You see the problem through your binoculars. The battleship had launched an inflatable filled with armed men, who hold Kida's crew at gunpoint. They gather the crew, and bring them up to the ship.

"They've been captured," you mutter hopelessly.

"But they set the mines," Calhoun comments grimly. "They'll probably be taken to the captain, on the upper decks. They could survive. We, on the other hand, have to get to Kerchak." Calhoun turns to the radio. "All fire teams, get to Kerchak immediately, over!"

"I hear ya!" Anna responds. Calhoun quickly shoulders her rifle and heads to the exit; you pick up your radio and rifle and follow suit.

You meet up with the distraction crew on the street outside. "Watch the rooftops, watch the windows, watch the corners. Fire at the enemy if they see you, but keep moving!" Calhoun yells. Her marines reply in the affirmative as you all make a mad dash for the boat. This is all too familiar to you.

Several squads of Disney soldiers, attracted by the commotion, immediately get a hail of bullets sprayed in their direction. The well-disciplined marines maintain a steady wall of fire on the enemy as they leapfrog through the city streets. It isn't too long before they reach the docks, where Jane and Elsa wait for them.

"Is the ship secured?" Calhoun asks.

"And the crew saved," Jane says with a smile. She high-fives Elsa.

As you all clamber onto the ship, you slip on a patch of ice and fall on your back. You throw a look at Elsa. "Oh, sorry," she says with a small smile. "Must've missed a spot." She waves her hands, and the ice dissolves into vapor.

It isn't long before the ship is good to go. Jane immediately orders full speed ahead, and the ship begins to make a beeline for the bay entrance. Roy Oliver and the two escort ships, spotting the suddenly active Kerchak, move to intercept. You're a sitting duck sitting in a bigger sitting duck.

Favor turns to your side, however, with the biggest explosion you've heard in your life. Water erupts all around the hull of Roy Oliver like Poseidon himself was emerging to claim the ship. Jets of fire shoot out of every vent and orifice of the ship, and one of the big guns pop straight out of its socket and land in the water with a gigantic splash. You can visibly see the hull of the battleship buckle and bend from the force of the explosion, and pieces of debris and crewmen are flung far from their source.

The men and women around you cheer. Jane quickly orders the helmsman to put Roy Oliver between Kerchak and the approaching escort ships. As you pass by the starboard side of the barely-afloat Roy Oliver, you suddenly see something. "Kida's crew! They're alive!" you shout.

Sure enough, on the upper decks of Roy Oliver, a group of six people can be seen tackling several Disney sailors to the ground. However, more navy crewmen with guns are approaching.

"Anyone with good aim, open fire!" Calhoun shouts. She moves to the side of the ship closest to Roy Oliver and starts shooting with her DMR. Several marines with scoped weapons join her. Enemy after enemy fall to the pinpoint gunfire as Kida and her men run for one of the inflatables. Once they reach it, they throw the boat over the side of the battleship and leap in after it. They clamber into the small boat. You think you can see Kida wave at Kerchak as she speeds the vehicle away.

"We're not out of this yet!" Jane yells. "Have torpedo tubes one through four on standby. Fire on my command."

The crippled Roy Oliver slowly drifts by them. As soon as they reach its stern, Jane gives the order: "Fire the torpedoes!"

Four torpedoes speed away from Kerchack in a wide spread. They just manage to clear Roy Oliver...and hit the two escort ships that were lying in wait. They buckle from the hits.

"Now: all guns, open fire!" The five inch guns all shoot at the escort ships, leaving them flaming wreckages in Kerchak's wake. Everyone on board once again cheers as Kerchak exits the bay and makes its way back to England.
