Description This is a cubist assignment from Painting I at Ball State University. We drew a person holding a guitar (upside down) from 20 some odd different points around the room all on the same sheet of paper, from there, we copied the drawing onto canvas and well...here's what happened!

Dimensions: 24" x 36"
Medium: Oil
Canvas: Plain ol' Gesso

I like it! Only problem: When I was growing up, lots of older folk would say sneeringly that all modern art could be hung upside down and no one would notice. When I first saw this I thought of that and said to myself, "Well, I NOTICED!" After reading your caption, I see now that it is intentional.

Yep, this is the only way that looks right to me at this point.

You've certainly got that 'Cubism? It's about an inch' kind of depth to the painting. Nice painting, almost typical of Braques or Picasso during the peak of Analytical Cubism.

Ah I did cubism last year (in school), it's really hard, but you did a great job of it! Love the colours.

Thank you, it was a lot of fun. If memory serves, we were only allowed to use 3 or 4 certain colors, and then one of our choosing. I believe that I chose sap green as my extra color...it's really been several years so I can't remember too well, but thanks for the comment!

Heh heh...well, that's one way to do it. Honestly, for me, this Painting I class was my first REAL experience with painting, so I wasn't complaining at all with the extra guidance/parameters. In hindsight, it was helpful. I have trouble focusing when there are no boundaries...

Yeah, I wish we had more boundaries. I mean, it was coursework so he was expecting it to be a certain way but it was just like "Only refer to the objects in this room" and stuff like that. It was nice to have freedom to have reasonably original ideas but at the same time he gave us too many options...

Most courses that I've valued the most in my time have started narrow and then broadened...along the "Your first project is my way, you final project is your way" style. That's also how I teach, that is, when people seek my advice...

Yeah, we've been told that next year "we'll be telling the teacher what to do". It's a good way of teaching

Thank you, it's not really mine either...but I'm kind of a jack of all trades...it's been my downfall my whole life...I need to pick something and stick to it!
