PERSONAL INFORMATIONPersonality:

Upbeat | Intelligent | Curious | Confident | Honest | Polite | Open Book | Clumsy | Slow | Blunt | Short-Tempered | Adamant

Kosuzu is a usually upbeat person with few cares on her mind at a time, coming off as naïve to some people. Although this may be true for some situations, she’s actually quite intelligent at most times you see her, even if she needs some more time than others to fully comprehend the circumstances or object in question. She’s extremely curious, used to openly asking questions whenever she doesn’t know or wants to know more about something. With any opinion she has or act she does, she is seen as confident and brave, most of the time backing them up completely.

The girl’s an open book when it comes to her emotions. On some occasions, Kosuzu can have a poker face, but that’s a rare chance. Even when she tries extremely hard and continuously denies it, it’s easy to read and find out how she feels and what’s on her mind. Also, easily seen is her tendency to trip over nothing and run into walls, a flaw she’s grown so used to that she now simply laughs it off whenever it happens.

Kosuzu has a tendency to blurt out whatever she’s thinking at that moment, a fault of being openly honest with people. She doesn’t take into account at the moment whether it’s helpful or hurtful, and if she finds that something she said wasn’t right to say, she will make sure to apologize for it. She’s usually polite and patient to whoever she meets, but if someone or something doesn’t sit right with her, her extremely short temper shows up. She’ll adamantly keep arguing until either she wins or becomes too tired or bested to care. Kosuzu may keep away from certain conversations or get depressed if certain topics or issues are brought up to her. Her usual denial to some of these topics can make her lash out in anger at the person bringing it up. Once she’s gotten rid of whatever rage she’s had, she will be sure to apologize and return to a happier air of happiness, even if it’s sometimes forced.

History:

Kosuzu was born an only child to a Japanese father and a Korean mother in her little home of Seishinawa. They weren’t the richest, her father a college professor while her mother stayed home, but they lived together happily. From an early age and on, the little girl quickly found herself raised in a strict, albeit caring, manner. Every day, she was taught by her mother to clean the house properly, sew and mend clothing, and cook all types of meals for the family. Father would cram knowledge after bit of knowledge into her head so that she would be a cunning and smart individual like himself. Her parents wished to raise her to be the idealized Japanese woman, serene, poised, and the perfect wife for when that time came. Taught to be submissive and domestic, she followed her parents’ rules and lessons, unconcerned and not questioning about these terms in the least. She obediently lives her simple and calm life.

The only times she could act without any boundaries were at school and at the shrine. It was fairly easy to see that Kosuzu was an intelligent girl from her school grades and she also had numerous friends, whom she could only see at school. On certain occasions, over the weekends, she was allowed to stay with her estranged uncle who was the priest of a shrine. The holy building was quite minor and not seen as a true and official shrine to most, but her uncle took his role quite seriously. He was a bundle of joy and cheerfulness and the girl was always happy to see him, even if her parents, for whatever reason she didn’t know, were not. The two would take care of the numerous shrine chores and play numerous games together, always talking to each other as they did so. He explained to Kosuzu about the history, guardians, and spirits of the town, including the rumor of the Onryo, all of which she was enchanted by. Along with these talks came small pieces of advice for her to be more “out there” and not be constrained to one train of thought, phrases she didn’t fully understand then. Even though her father would tell her to ignore his nonsense, she still kept his words in the back of her mind.

At the age of 12, all Kosuzu remembers from that day was being urgently awakened from sleep. Her mother and her father, who was carrying her, were running out of their home in a distressed rush and through sleepy eyes she saw wrath and destruction. Strange orbs attacking people, the screams and cries from the terrified and dying people, she simply remembers being terrified from it all. She was still crying when she heard the news of it all. It was the Onryo who unleashed the spirits, it was the Onryo who targeted a certain group of people, and it was the Onryo who murdered her uncle along with countless others. This all seemed to go past her breaking point and she then became empty inside. As her family went on recovering from the epidemic, Kosuzu went on following her parents’ teachings. It was all she could do, until her uncle’s words came back to her. To be her own person, to express herself with no restrictions, it was something she felt was now necessary for her to do. Even though it was foreign to her, she started to go against her parents in pursuit of these thoughts and desires, just a few months after the incident had taken place.

Eight years passed by. Kosuzu and her parents grew further apart as she gained new traits and characteristics that weren’t their idea of idealized in the perfect woman. She moved out and had gotten her own apartment at the age of 19, her job as a local tutor being her source of income. Once she heard about the Seishin College, she felt like it would be a missed opportunity if she didn’t go to attend. Conflicted between the three different houses, she finally chose Chowahito, believing it to be the option that both she and her uncle would be most content with.

Relationships:

Akira Utsugi | Father | Alive: He’s an intelligent man and taught me well. However, I won’t let him work on me like a doll ever again.

Jeong-jin Song | Mother | Alive: She taught me some important life skills. Not much else to say except that she was a charming and kind. Still, I won’t let her tell me what to do again either.

Yorumi Utsugi | Uncle | Deceased: He was a very good man; someone like him didn’t deserve to die. I simply hope and pray that he’s gone on and that his soul is at peace now.

MISC.Skills and disadvantages:
+ Advantages : Cooking, cleaning, etc…; Good Physical Endurance, Great Memory, Cheerful and Optimistic Mindset
    - Disadvantages : Short patience with certain people, Can’t hide her emotions well, Clumsy, Argumentative/Competitive

Extras:
- Voice: Ōtani, Ikue 0:03 - 0:16
- Whenever Kosuzu is off or has free time, she can be found walking past and hanging out in her uncle’s shrine.
- She will sometimes start crying whenever she remembers the Onryo incident.
- She likes to bring snacks and arts and crafts along with her whenever she confronts a spirit. If you’re in a good, calm mood, then others will too, right?
- Her uncle was the one who got her into origami and making paper cranes, also telling her the myth of creating a thousand of them. She even keeps the few paper creatures that he had made for her on a small shelf at home.
- Kosuzu still keeps contact with her parents, usually monthly calls and checkups.
- Her father taught her certain skills that could help uncover additional information about spirits, however she doesn’t resort to using them. She finds them cruel and heartless, preferring to go her own way when dealing with spirits.
- She wears her reading glasses whenever she needs to look at something closely, like fine details in certain objects or text in a book. Yet, she also sometimes wears them whenever she feels the need to be a little silly and brighten up the atmosphere.
- Kosuzu's outfit bears a resemblance in color scheme to a shrine maiden's clothing. Becoming a shrine maiden has always interested her, as she had performed the duties of one while she was with her uncle and had found enjoyment in it.
- Her love of sports came from whenever she would play such games with her uncle or friends at school. Although she didn't think much of it before and even now, this may have been her first time of rebelling against her parents, since she did these without their knowledge and being good at sports was not considered by them necessary for a proper woman.
