"a sequence which better occur in the next LEGO movie." I second that motion. I hope they put a scene with some bionicle in the next movie. I think we should all get very vocal about wanting a bionicle related scene. Even if its just a short scene, something where at least there's the characters moving around with them.

Yeah... unless it turns out to be like the joke that we got in this movie. A lot of people seem to think that BIONICLE was a failed line because the movie characters deemed it not worth mentioning. Some articles about the movie claim that BIONICLE was one of LEGO's big mistakes, and that this scene was their way of poking fun at it.

Huh. Well It wasn't the only theme to get a 'slide card" A bunch of other's did to. I took that as "we've got a lot of themes and we can't go over them all in detail" I don't see how lego would think Bionicle was a big mistake. It exploded with popularity. More than any other theme has. I definitely don't think Lego thinks of it as a mistake, I just think it had run its course and was time to move on. But those first few years, it was really popular. I'm sure you remember it, A DVD movie, card games, tooth brushes, all sorts of merchandise outside of the actual toy line. Lego wouldn't have signed off on all that stuff if the theme wasn't wildly popular and selling well. In fact I think that ended up being a disservice because that set the bench mark for everything to follow, and nothing in the Constraction line has been able to hit it since.
Personally I think who ever said that is over analyzing things. Lego really does have a lot of themes, and some have been successful and some haven't been. I think it was simply a funny and efficient way of pointing out some of the other notable themes within lego.

Well said, there. It seems people are projecting the hate that a lot of older LEGO fans have for the theme into the joke (don't know if the movie creators belong to these haters or not), and somehow come to the false conclusion that everyone must have hated it too. Fabuland is also referenced in that scene, and that theme is also well liked, far from a failure.
At any rate, if they decide to reference Bio (or any of other now-defunct but popular lines) in the next film, I hope it will be less likely to be taken the wrong way.

Yep, I have also met my share of these folks. On one LEGO forum where the Constraction themes are separated from all the others, there was one "real LEGO" fanatic who occasionally trolled us, saying that BIONICLE is not LEGO and that its fans should die... just commit suicide and let the "real LEGO" fans alone. Don't know if he's been banned or not, but he doesn't troll us anymore.
Anyway, we don't need any more jokes that only make these people laugh.

Wow that's pretty lame, which forum is this, Eurobricks? I just got an account there. I'm learning my way around but it's pretty cool. Eh They're just idiots if they can't keep an open mind like that. And I think it really does come down to being an ego thing. Its way more complex than brick building and so when we can really thrive with it and they can't make heads or tails of how we did that, it must "rustle their jimmies" as the troll saying goes.
What do you mean?

Vrahno In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2014-02-15 13:56:46 +0000 UTC]
I meant the movie writers shouldn't cater to these haters, but embrace every type of LEGO fan.
And that incident happened on a non-English forum. I also read Eurobricks (but don't post there), but thankfully haven't encountered any truly nasty haters there so far.

It really upsets me that there are actually people who HATE Bionicle. Firstly, did they even read any of the stories? The Comic Books? The actual Books? The Movies? The Online games and animations? These showed that Bionicle had a really epic story which set it apart from other Lego lines.
Secondly, Bionicle pratically SAVED Lego from rough economical times. In fact, if it weren't for Bionicle, there probably wouldn't be The Lego Movie!

Vrahno In reply to RaidMasterProduction [2014-03-17 14:23:50 +0000 UTC]
There are people who hate Bio partly because of its story. Some say it's too violent and harmful to kids, and not LEGO-y enough. Most older fans would be used to LEGO lines not having much in the way of story and characters, and feel that Bionicle was too focused on being a story instead of just a simple toy-line.
Of course, there are LEGO fans who maintain that LEGO should never, ever be anything more than just toys -- comics, movies, cartoon, games, books, and all sorts of tie-in media just make them hate Bionicle and similar lines even more, because they think that LEGO's selling out.
On the other hand, there are also Bionicle fans (or ex-fans in some cases) who really, really hate the story, the movies, the books, and Greg's writing in general, so there's that.

Though a couple of worthwhile discussions still pop up there from time to time.

Johnny Thunder had lots of different names β he was from an era before the marketing materials for different themes were standardized from region to region. In Great Britain he was Sam Grant.
I can't remember if it was the Jungle wave or the Dino Island wave when the names first became standardized region-to-region. Johnny Thunder, the American name, became standard for this character, but Gail Storm (all the American names for the heroes in the first year were weather-themed) became Pippin Reed, and Dr. Charles Lightning became Dr. Kilroy. Baron von Barron became Sam Sinister (which was confusing, since previously his henchman known as Slyboots in Great Britain was called Sam Sanister).
Nowadays, the most heavily story-driven themes like Ninjago, Legends of Chima, and Hero Factory use the same names from region to region. But there are still names that vary between languages in order to preserve a pun β check out the alternate character names on a European LEGO Movie set's box to see a vast array of character names.

Vrahno In reply to skybard [2014-02-10 13:23:33 +0000 UTC]
Very interesting. I knew about the big Sam Sinister/Sanister-Baron von Barron-Slyboots confusion (and I think he was/they were also called something like Mr. Hates, too), but not the rest. I'm pretty "out of touch" with modern LEGO packagings, didn't realize they give you so many names.
Wish other toy franchises did the same, because I know that for example Transformers and My Little Pony fans are having a lot of trouble with inconsistent name changes.

Johnny Thunder (a.k.a. Sam Grant or Joe Freeman or something like that - I can't quite remember the other name) was inspired by Indiana Jones who was inspired by Allan Quartermaine (Quartermain, whichever you pronounce it).
