Fair and reasonable observations.
The weapon is favored by the bio-mechanical characters in our project called Sendai but it's also used by humans as well. The weapon also is definitely not too heavy to handle as to it's use in the fictional setting it exists in due to some of the more advanced material used to make them (it's in a really far future setting with retro aesthetics). It uses SABOT rounds, which are actually flechette rounds. Tanks use these rounds and there are some small arms, shotguns in particular that use them. They are highly accurate penetration rounds for piercing armor, mainly sendai armor in the project. I always approach this stuff with one foot firmly in the creative freedom fiction affords so this would ultimately be one of the primary firing styles used with this weapon (as pictured sans a should stock):

Now, although this is indeed a show, and fiction as well, there are also examples of trick shooters that are accurate shooting lever action "from the hip":
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ppXe5…
Yes, the lever is modified (in the shooter's demonstration above. larger cocking ring) in order to do this with speed but it shows that a human can do this. My fictional design can have added aim-assist targeting devises that humans can use and sendai often have advanced capabilities on their own to begin with. So, it's a design firmly rooted in the fiction of it all but there's thought and reason into how it works within the project's universe.
Thanks for the comments man!

Apologies for the seriously delayed replay (I was care giver for my late Father for some 9 years).
No problem on modeling this (if you did) and thanks for informing me, just make sure it's credited to me and all good.
Thanks for dropping by back in the 2013s!

Dude, I have not seen anyone properly do a sci-fi version of the old lever action rifle, TILL NOW. You made into Several of my favorites folders, I am in love. You win a watch from me specifically from this, and I may try to build a prop of this in the future for a film of mine.

Thank you for the kind words man, I appreciate it.
We're always honored when people make fan arts, 3D models, or fan kit bash builds of our works but using this in a film as a prop we'd prefer not to see. The weapon was designed for the Theos KE Polemos project and that is what it was intended for. It is our copyrighted design and part of is NOT free for use in other creative or commercial ventures. Brand confusion, even with short films or fan films is not something you want to see happening with your I.P., so no it may not be used as a prop in any film or project other than Theos KE Polemos.
Apologies if this comes off harsh but I hope you can understand. Thanks!

Yeah lever action and shotguns can yield some pretty trippy fictional weapons when you're starting there as a basis. I so totally understand how you would find that a great inspiration for design. My interest in doing some lever actions comes from my love of the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns. The man with no name, ultimate western badass (though Charles Bronson and baddie Henry Fonda in 'Once Upon a Time in the West' were utter badasses too). There's just something classic about the lone gunslinger with a lever action, very iconic.
I didn't explain it so well in my reply but you're right on the observations, that's what I had in mind, the hardened gel case rounds are caseless as the propellant gel case just burns away once fired so, yup caseless TKP weapons do exist and the hardened polymer gel would be it. The rounds that are using non gel casings (brass or composite materials) use another form of this gel as the ignition propellant as the same electric ignition process tends to be most common.
That said you could still have this type of caseless gel round (because the hardened gel case is still technically a case before firing) as a SABOT because a sabot is simply a sleeve-like device to allow a smaller bore projectile to navigate a larger smooth bore barrel (usually smooth bore such as the M1 Abrams tank though it can be used in rifled weapons as well). It's commonly the familiar flechette dart anti tank round that the term sabot is associated with even though that's not actually what a sabot is, the sabot is only the sleeve. There are actually loads of common firearm sabot "reloader" rounds to allow you to shoot smaller bore ammo in a larger bore weapon.
[link]
There were even wooden sabot collared musket rounds in the 1800s and this is where the concept originated and the term sabot (French) actually derived from the wooden clogs (shoes) worn in Europe. The common anti-sendai, and larger anti-FOIL, HVS rounds are, indeed, similar to Armour-piercing discarding sabot so they do use a form of casing to hold the sabot sleeve and round before firing.
[link]
There are totally variations and specialized rounds and even very much non shett type rounds as well (specialized shotgun type pellets of various types for example). Makes sense there would be a variety of types of munitions but shetts would be the most common due to sendai being a dangerous reality in this setting. TKP is pretty far in the future with some weird tech lurking in the shadows so I try to have fun with it. Indeed I'm totally fine with playing a dash of loose fantastic here but this stuff is too interesting not to try to make it somewhat believable as well.
I have a feeling you already know most of this info but, if not, there you go Pretty interesting stuff when you really dig into it and you always end up finding more as you dig. Great stuff, always fun to discuss and it tends to fire the imagination and inspiration in doing so Great hearing your inspirations there too on the shotguns and lever actions.
Best!
