2014 Easter Extravaganza

Caraphernelia Park's Absolem | 5 years

Ridden by Kiralee Grundy, representing Caraphernelia Park
Entered in the Three Day Event

Easter was upon them, and what better way to spend it than competing through it? The sun shone down warmly and reflected off Kira’s beautiful show jacket. Being an Easter event, the competitors were not restricted by the usual plain black tradition attire requirement, so Kiralee saw it as the perfect opportunity to pull out one of her most prized possessions; a beautifully embellished, but otherwise black jacket. She would wear it in the Show Jumping and the Dressage phase of the event, but already it was making her feel much more confident.

With two hot cups of coffee, she made her way back to the trailer from the food stand, making a note of polishing her boots again, since they were still mildly scuffed from where Absolem had stood on them when he broke her foot. If they didn’t come clean, she was simply going to have to purchase a new pair. With money she currently did not have.

When she got back, she found her horse already groomed and hair braided. She looked at him, puzzled, not remembering already have done that. Startled, she jumped slightly at the sound of Damone’s voice. She continued to forget he was her new babysitter, as she decided to call him.

“I had nothing to do, so I figured I’d give you a head start on the preparation-is that for me!?” He trailed off, wide eyed as he spotted the fact that Kira was carrying not just one, but two coffees. “And I thought you had no soul.” He said, grinning slyly.

Kira handed over his cup reluctantly. “I do so have a soul. Just not around you.”

Damone smiled as he sipped at his hot beverage. He made his way over to the trailer steps and took a seat, looking over their surroundings in a lazy manner before winking at her. “That’s fine with me, sweet cheeks.”

Taken aback by his words, Kira stood for a moment trying to think of something to say, but thought the better of it. She set her cup down next to him and rummaged through the tack compartment of the trailer, pulling out three satin saddle blankets; orange, blue and green, all in pastel shades. She set the on Absolem’s back one by one and stood back from each, making sure the colours suited the black stallion; which of course, they did.

“Girls.” Damone chuckled softly under his breath as he watched Kira as she tested all three colours, before he spoke up menacingly, “The real question is; which colour for which phase!?”

Kira whirled around to look at him, then to the pads, to Absolem, back to the pads, then to Damone again. “……..I don’t know!” she said, a frown upon her face. His question had given him the reaction he sought, and Damone finished his coffee in quiet laughter. ‘Oh the first world problems of being a girl’ he thought to himself.

None the less, he would be there to help her through her tough decisions, as well as everything else over the next couple of days. Damone honestly didn’t mind her company, not that he would ever admit it, and he couldn’t wait to get in the saddle himself soon. Perhaps Kira would allow him to bring his own horse along to their next event. He picked up her coffee and sipped away, knowing that it would cause havoc to break loose. But it wasn’t like she’d be able to catch him anyway, so for the time being, he was safe. He looked at the small girl hauling her saddle up onto the green saddle pad already on her horse, and knew that they would do well, even despite the fact that she had a broken foot. The two had admittedly surprised him, especially with the lack of experience Absolem had.

Easter this year sure was going to be a blast.

Artist’s Comments:
Just a quick, minimal effort competition entry for Absolem. x3 My butt of a horse decided that instead of barrel racing, we were going to practice saddle bronc yesterday, and so he bucked and bolted a whole 100m straight to the fence. I knew he wasn't going to stop so I pulled him around quickly just before it, and lost my balance. I was flung off the side and smashed right into a concrete/cement water trough. No helmet, no protective gear. Smashed my head, my back and my temple. Tore my right calf muscle off the bone. .__.

So you will be seeing a little bit of art from me in the near future while I hop around on crutches!

Uuuuugggghhhh this is so pretty like always. The colours you use are awesome.
I hope you are feeling alright after your fall, I remember one time my horse at the time threw me into a fence and I cracked two ribs. Horses eh?

Thank you so much!
Horses indeed. My horse's problem is that he's very switched on, and too smart for his own good so he's always testing me to see if I'm ready or not, so bronc sessions are basically an everyday thing. Every time he does it I give him the hardest slap I possibly can in the neck and dig my heels into him, but it just doesn't seem to do any good. No form of punishment I deal out to him for being a little shit seems to work. I honestly do not know what to do with him. He's becoming dangerous.

My pleasure
Ahhhhh I see. I had a horse like that at one point. Her name was Molly and she was an off the track thoroughbred. She was fast enough to race but her problem was like she was the bitchest mare I have ever dealt with. She'd snap and bite, kick, rear, bolt. Anything. She would become like a danger to herself and even other horses because if you stabled her beside another she would start fights. I even had he vet and saddler to come out to see if there was anything up with her but there wasn't. We tried like all the calming feed stuff but nothing would work. And don't get me started on riding, it was hard enough to get her saddled and out of her stall than actually stay on her. She'd bolt, freeze then take off, spin, buck, rear and she would even roll sometimes. I tried what you've been doing, digging your heels in and giving a slap but it'd make her worse. I tried sitting really quietly, that just made her think she could do what she wanted so instead of riding her I started working with her on the ground. Lunging and just leading her about and trying to gain her trust with after like 4 month worked. I even tried that natural horsemanship join up thing, which worked eventually. I don't know if you've tried working on the ground with him but that's all that I can think off if the punishment isn't working. :/

Ahh, sounds like a very head-strong mare.
Harley's just an arrogant pig at the moment. Every time he plays up, I'd get off and lunge him until he was panting like a dog, then get back on and try the barrels again. Every time he played up, I'd lunge him again. I eventually had to quit because he got so tired he went down on his front knees, yet he just would not stop his shit and bucking. When my leg gets better I'm going to tie some tyres to his saddle and lunge him hard for about half an hour then get on and see what he does.

She was a little bitch man -_-

And well, I guess that's a way to go to. Teach him that if he plays up he'll just get worked even harder. Some horses are just like that though -_-

He wasn't like this up until a couple of months ago, because I gave him a 4 month spell so I can work with my younger ones...and now he's just an arrogant pig. I think I'll have to start from the start with him again, on the ground and work my way up.

Thank you very much!
All of my helmets except for my roughstock rodeo helmet with the barrier across the front are broken,a nd I really don't want to ride in that one. Would look like a total spastic. xD This is basically just a battle wound for me, riding saddle broncs in rodeos is generally my fun for the evening, so I'll be back up in no time.

Thank you very much for your kind words, though.
