Well, considering the matriarchal society of Equestria, it would be quite easy for her to seize the throne by killing Twilight and marrying Arcane, even if she is technically only ruling through jure uxoris (with Arcane as the "legitimate" ruler as son of Twilight).

Either that or Trixie is dead and Shine Bright is her granddaughter, great granddaughter, ect. The comic I think is implying Twilight's been alive for a few hundred years now maybe. Spike is still alive cause dragons are long-lived. Sunset might still be alive cause it's hinted she might be an alicorn princess now but might not realize it yet. That phoenix symbolism in the past is not today song and Daydream Shimmer looking like an angelic human alicorn.

How do we know for sure about that? Her destiny was to become one but because she didn't understand friendship at the time she didn't have what it took to become one when she ran to Earth. Now that she has friends and is understanding friendship, it's very well possible she's becoming one now.

Twilight's living through an industrial revolution in this comic, so no, Sunset is not still alive, nor is she an alicorn. As for the Trixie connection - we didn't plan one and even if there was one, it would be tenuous at best.
