I've been on both sides of this aisle. An epiphany I had a long time ago was that you can't tell people to be open-minded if you aren't open-minded yourself.

It actually gets kind of funny, because when you're in an argument with someone they'll often demand you be "open-minded" and "accepting," but if you turn this demand back on them all of a sudden it doesn't apply.

I believe that true open-mindedness means you're willing to question yourself, including your beliefs and morals, and not just those of other people. Who's with me?
