I had put this piece on the back burner for the longest time. Although, it really didn't take too long to do it, considering I used photos for guides. But I did do a lot of painting. Both with normal brushes, as well as the use of all the other crazy brushes I use.
I really don't want to spoil too much about the story behind this image. But I'm loving the sabers, and the burn scaring on the face and right hand. The lightsaber effects I was inspired by both the "cartoon" Clone Wars mini-series (not the new 3D animation) and from the video game The Force Unleashed.
Well, now that I actually think about it, I really like this piece. Heh- it's not all flames and blood. Ha ha the usual theme in my pieces, but this one is rather wet, rainy, and gloomy. Lol still scary cool though.
Also! I don't mind critiques, so I made it to where everyone can! (I don't bite, or get butt hurt. Just FYI.) The download link is HUGE, just a heads up... but you can see the details better when you download it.

It's been a couple years since I've been on dA, good to see you're still around. I always loved your work. Excellent photomanip. It's very full of emotion, and I love the dark blue theme for the colors.

This is my non-premium membership version of a critique.
I think you have done really well the the special effects for this. It can be hard to make convincing lightsabers, and the lighting and "magic" lines around it work well in this image, not over done. A suggestion, though, is that you might want to make the left lightsaber handle not as see-through where the base is with the light.
The water, rain, and grass look amazing, and really add to the atmosphere of the piece, though I think you may want to concentrate on getting the feet to blend in more (mainly the left foot) so that it looks like it is actually in the water. The right foot is hidden by a wave, so that seems alright. Getting feet to fit into a picture is something I have always found to give me trouble.
The person also looks amazing, and the expression/face seems very befitting of a dark Jedi or Sith. My only thought is the person seems -too- blue, so I feel that you might want to back off the saturation of the blue just a bit. On the same token, though, I do like that you are using the blue atmosphere, and the more I think about it, the more I like the monochrome appearance of the picture.

I totally agree with you about the foot. It's been bothering me since I posted it, I just never went back to it due to conflicting interests (mostly with my most recent cross country move) I have plans to re-render that particular flaw once my studio is up and running

Understandable. I have a few images myself that I later went back to and edited when I finally had the chance. Mainly because I needed to for Mid Program, and then because I realized the wonders that CS5 could do.
That would make sense about the force spirit, though I think I like that you decided to keep him as still flesh and blood. Combined in a series, though, the colors might not stand out as much as a problem.
You're welcome, I can understand the value of critiques since having found them useful in photography classes. And I can understand about taking a while to respond, sometimes life just gets really busy.
