Whew! It's finished! This one's been in the works for a long time. First of all, I made a digital mock-up to figure out the composition, then copied that on the full-size paper. Only then did I realize... I had no idea how to paint water! I spent many days learning to paint ocean water. You can see that whole journey on my Instagram or Tumblr blog.

After I got the water right, it was so stressful to work on the bird, because if I messed it up I would have to redo the water. I had a lot of moments where I was just sitting at my desk, not wanting to start on the next layer out of fear I'd mess it up.

But, somehow (with God's help ) I managed to finish!

I'd love to hear how people feel about the unusual background. Do you like it? How do you interpret it? In my mind, the tern is flying through a "window" in the paper out over the ocean.
