Description
The girls gathered around noon by a sodasopa shop that was set near on a building's roof. It was going out of business, but that meant few people would be there, it even got Copleand to show up. She, Ash, and Torrent took a seat at the table, and Analie stood beside them; after getting drinks, they were waiting for the waiter to come around to take their meal orders.
Ash and Torrent talked a bit about some things that happened in their seperate neighborhood, but Copleand was often quite and just looking down at her drink. Analie was looking at her from time to time, but she didn't ask her about it.
"Hey, what about you girls?" Ash turned to them, "You've been silent the entire time, Copeleand."
"I've been quite, or did you forget our guard dog?" Copleand asked and took a sip of her punch.
"Analie can't use her powers and force a phone to talk." Ash said, "It'd give her away if she did that out here. Besides, you're out on the darker streets all the time, you're bound to have better stories than any of us."
Copleand looked at them all again, but then looked down at her drink, "I like a free drink and bite as much as the next guy, but why are we up here?"
"It's just to be together," Torrent said, "We're a team when we're heroes, but why not be friends when not in our alter ego? It's a way to bond with one another."
"So we're gonna bond by hanging out." Copleand sighed, but then shrugged, "I guess it means a free meal, and it's better than playing hide and seek." Analie looked at her confused, but Torrent and Ash laughed. "So barring that, someone here is now a celebrity. How's it been being an Icon, Ash?"
"It's been odd." Ash said, "I guess I haven't noticed since I've kept away from them."
"Ash the Angel still has a nice ring." Torrent said, "You sound like a cartoon superhero."
"How long does it take to make comics." Ash chuckled, "Anyway, if we are gonna go this road, aren't we all gonna follow suit?"
"As long as I don't wear latex tights." Copleand said, "I gotta admit, it's nice getting some crooks off the street. Meth cooks, murderers, trafficers, getting them off the streets feels pretty good."
Analie then set her phone on the table with a text on the screen. "Given you and your father's criminal background, that means a lot."
That got all the other girls laughing.
"But seriously, why gather in public?" Copleand asked, "Why here where there's few ways to escape from, people can see us easily, and is in the more polulated part of the city? Wouldn't it be better to hang out in the park where it's more spaced and we could be secluded, or some cool shady alleyway?"
Analie's phone beeped again, and a new text was on screen. "I knew those concerns, so I chose this closing restaurant were some few people would go. Up here is also a good view of the parade instead of the ground like most seem to do."
"Parade?"
Copleand looked at Ash surprised then rubbed her eyes, "Right you didn't grow up near this area. This city throws a parade to show off and promote businesses. The mayor claims it's so other people can see how many opportunities there are for young people to join in, I say it's some distraction from the real crime rate this place has." Just as she said that, an explosion was heard in the distance, "Like I said, the parade is just to make people forget there's danger every day."
Analie took her phone back and the screen went wild through tabs and windows.
"Where'd that bomb go off at?" Ash asked, getting up.
"I find people, not events." Torrent said, and stood up as well, "It didn't sound far though."
Analie's ear stood straight up and for the edge. She leaped off the roof of the building and landed on another. Then the other three got a text. "Terrorists at the parade, six blocks east."
