Description Richards log,
November 11th, 2018

I found an old note I left for myself about one of my patients. Analie has been staying with my niece, Jessica, and she told me Analie becomes depressed on Veterans Day, a day to honor soldiers like her for what they've done. My assumption was that it was a reminder, to her, of what she's lost while among in the military.
She's been there for years, lived and worked in horrible conditions, lost much of her freedom, and then was thrown out without say or reason or show of appreciation. Back then, I recommended to Jess to look up her records and remind her of them, but she couldn't find a thing. I checked her records afterwards, and all of it was either too vague or left as a blank gap in her history.

And so, I planned to day's Veterans Day, by taking her somewhere that people would remember her and all she's done better than I. It was a veterans reunion party, that was arranged by the city, and would have hundreds of old soldiers like her who'd know what she's done for the nations.
As a result, the event exceeded my expectations. Upon entrance, several people turned heads, and then got other people to look her way. About a dozen men walked up to her, or offered her a seat. She stayed standing, but I could see a smile forming on her face as she heard them talk to her about times they were together. It even surprised me what she heard. She wasn't just another soldier fighting battles with them. What ever unit she was from would even fight the battles for them. Putting several lives out of harms way, while going to rescue several others behind enemy lines.
Telling her their side of her stories, didn't just make her smile, it made her cry; something I knew she'd fight herself not to do. That made me smile most. Not only was I hearing about the true hero Analie is among soldiers and ordinary citizens, but, I think, she was now hearing it too.
I'm going or recommend this, annually, to her, to help her feel better on this day. She'd not only be reminded of what she did in the most positive way, but it seems to make her feel good around something so familiar.

Richard Haines,
Signing off.

Happy Veterans Day, (Or Remembrance Day for those outside the U.S.)
Another time of the year to honor our soldiers both in service and outside of it.
Both have been, and still are, heroes to the nation, and are worth our love and respect.
