Description

In 1945, following the liberation of the island of Borneo from the Japanese, the Rajah of Sarawak Charles Vyner Brooke returned to Kuching. Due to the toll the war had taken on Charles, he had planned to give up Sarawak to the British as a crown colony and abolish the Raj. However, fierce resistance by the Rajah Muda Anthony Brooke, his nephew, led to Charles eventually giving in and appointing Anthony as his successor despite the wishes of the British. Britain was in no position to openly invade a former colony right after the war had ended, and decided to settle with the Raj of Sarawak remaining a British protectorate for now.

20 years have passed, and despite challenges on the independence of Sarawak by the Federation of Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia, Sarawak remains free and independent from its envious neighbors. Sarawak has completed negotiations with the British to achieve full independence from the crown and to enter the Commonwealth of Nations as a sovereign entity, and is ready to enter the world stage.Despite a fomenting Communist insurgency in the highlands of the upper Rajang river and continuous threats from Jakarta, Sarawak stands strong.

This map also depicts the Nation of Brunei, which has also achieved independence from the British, and the Crown Colony of North Borneo, which has not done so yet due to geopolitical challenges from Indonesia and the Philippines.
