Description
I hit a block and I needed to relieve stress before final exams start. So I decided to write about a story I have of work. I work as a night shift janitor - I work at a refinery outside a large city. So anyway I was working one night and this is late winter so trees are missing leaves all that. My job is to walk around make sure things are not to out of place and bad. I was walking to a sub station outside of the gate. Its a bit of a walk but I don't mind it to much. I was walking back after making sure everything was in order and on the way back a massive fog bank started to sweep across the area. In winter this is a bit unusual however it does happen from time to time as snow melts and evaporates. The fog toppled everything and I could barley see 1 foot in front of me. I had a hour before I needed to get back to the security office so I couldn't stop. I was half way to the gate when I heard something behind me. The only people who are at this place during nights are me and a few janitors and they defiantly don't clean the treatment facility. I'm a little startled by this and start to move a little quickly I get to the gate and punch in without turning around. I look back and see something glowing (now I've seen wild life out this way before even coyotes and deer passing by) but this was defiantly something different. The gate locked behind me and I felt a bit of relief I had a mile to go before I could go back so I tell my try to use the radio it failed. (now normally this is the case) Its a massive facility with 2-5 hills everywhere so I don't think anything of it. I go through all the building checking to make sure nothing is ajar or out of place. I find a few barrels knocked over but nothing to bad the wind was extremely weird that night. I get to a building where normally someone's cleaning up or filing paper work. However nothing really was there the entire area was empty. As I kept going on with my walk I notice things were seriously bad. I started noticing Power was out to a few buildings, Signs for forklifts were torn off lamp posts, and the most troubling of all a entire side of a building was missing (I WAS REALLY REALLY CONFUSED BY THAT). At this rate I realized this is extremely extremely bad and I needed someone now. I try the radio again the realization hit me power was out even if someone had a radio they would need to be on my frequency. Which was not possible as no one aside from me had a been on my band since two days prior. I started walking back somewhat quickly when I came across a something? This thing was massive it had tan fur and pointed ears. I could not tell if it was a dog, a mountain lion, anything else I did not have time because as it saw me it started to approach growling. 1.I had a few things I could do I could run (bad idea-ice everywhere) 2. I could try my radio again (this time I tried the man down button but it failed) 3. I retreat slowly and hope I'm close enough to the next building door so I can hide (Pure luck). I chose option 3 and to my surprise I made it I slammed the door shut with this thing closing in. I waited a few minutes before this thing was 100% gone. I watched through a plexy glass window as it crawled away under a hole in the fence. I am panicked however I'm still half a mile away from the security office. I start moving through the building I took shelter in when I smell a weird Oder. I had no clue what it was however I do know that the place I work for specializes in inhalation hazards. I put my shirt over my mouth hoping whatever it is wont destroy my lungs (wishful thinking-I passed chemistry with a d in high school). I get back outside by some miracle and back into the illumination of street lights. I wonder into the laboratory as a short cut back to the security office. I make it back and find my co-worker and relay my entire story tom them. I asked why the didn't answer my radio calls. The base station for the radios have been knocked out by a brown out and has not been fixed yet. I asked if he saw me on the cameras at least to confirm what I saw. Since the power was down... no recording and no evidence. Even the data base showing my entries and my sign ins were gone. The only way to prove I was not going insane was to show him a hole in the ground. A gap large enough for only a insect to get through.

I wish I made this story up but dang I had to change the geography and the date at which things occurred a little because once again I got to make sure I cover all my basis. After this event I made a request for the ground crew to patch the hole in the fence just in case. Oddly enough the side of the building that was knocked over was fixed by the time I came in the next night. However a week later a building adjacent was missing completely foundation and all was gone. The weird Oder I smelled when walking through the one building was oddly enough glucose. Turns out a medical kit started to go bad and a pack of oral glucose leaked everywhere. The power out on the other side of the plant was due to a transformer burst down the road. We didn't lose power because we ran on generators. My co-worker thinking this was a dog I saw dedicated the rest of his night looking for this thing. Power to him! For the next two days he was eager to go out first.
