Description Don't kill me. I HAD to do it.
If they ever try to make a Captain Harlock live action movie, I WANT Matthew Gray Gubler to play the lead role!

It started as a joke. I used to think that Reid's haircut in Criminal Minds season 4 looked a lot like Harlock's. Then I noticed how well he would fit the role: the Captain has to be tall and skinny, after all. So I thought "how about giving Matthew an eyepatch and a scar, just to see how he looks?" That's the result.


**I used a Reid photo as reference for the pose, but obviously had to imagine his clothes, so whatever flaw you'll find in shading is totally my fault. As I said before, my imagination is not hyperrealistic.

The messy Arcadia sketch on the background is taken from a book I've been keeping for -uh- 33 years. Didn't really have time to draw the damn starship better than that, sorry.

HB mechanical pencil for lighter shadows and bg, 3B pencil, charcoal pencil for deeper shadows. 'Cause it works.

First, great draw. I like the shading a lot. Is sketchy yet still solid.

Second....nah. Won't kill ya...but Harlock needs someone a tad more manly looking to portray him. Broader chin and stuff.

Maybe not that much, but Harlock HAS a fairly square chin(as of Arcadia SXX, that is)

Arcadia SSX is not my favorite. Original series was better. But I'd pick the movie characterization above all (the 2013 CGI movie, I loved it).

OK..... for about 30 or 40 seconds I'm all like "WTF" in shock..... then another 10 thinking that there is no way in heck that such people as hardcore Anime fans would allow Harlock to be an American production, with an American as the Captain (which is rather odd, because canonically Harlock is German and I don't think there's many actors with German descendancy on the Japanese actors' guild (whichever is it called))....



....and then, you know, I know "hell with it" and I have to say that he would at least make an impressive cosplay if he ever appeared like that in the show (we already had him dressed like one of the Doctors and he looked actually rather good enough that it makes me rage at the ones that stopped DW from being picked by the Americans if only because him appearing as a Time Lord would have been awesome) and I would support the shit out of any campaign for him to play Harlock even on a fanfilm...


Pretty good art. Very realistic. I wouldn't kill you if we ever met-I would give you a pretty firm handshake.
