There's such a classic era feel to your work, great colour harmony.

Thank you, I try. Tomer Hanuka told me once, and I'll mis-quote him for sure, my early work was too harmonious, too nice. He gave me the advice to throw in one other color to create tension and make things a bit uncomfortable/more interesting. I thought it was good advice and I've tried to use it since.

Yeah. I noticed that. You create a sense of calm, sooth the viewer with tonal harmony-- then slap the crap out of us with an intense colour strategically placed.

I'm sure you're aware of the colour work done on Mignola's books. The work is in the colour choices that are made rather than a herculean palette with extensive rendering.

At this point what I'm interested in seeing more of how you integrate copy (if indeed you play any role in that). I'm one of those folks who like to see a complete integration of all aspects of the presentation. Looking at the image for this thread of discussion, I find myself wondering how I would approach the application of lettering for this panel.

I wouldn't want to use a stark white blurb that detracts from the balance created with the art, but at the same time I wouldn't want to place a balloon that was so muted that you lose the distinction between visual elements and abstract verbal elements.

This was just a card, so it's shrunk down really small and cropped, no text in the image.

Your thoughts reminded me of this old cover...
