Wow. That's just an amazing piece of work. Even without your comments to expand on the picture, a great story was told.

Thank you very much! It took me forever to get this one right (I didn't draw the images, I just put them together in photoshop and added backgrounds, effects, etc.).

I was wondering what kind of technique you used. Even though you used photoshop, it's beautiful. There's no "ghostly" lines on the images or other marks of cropping. It's a seamless piece of art, and that's what I found so beautiful about it.

I actually used a combination of the Polygonal Lasso tool, Blur, and the Eraser. First, I zoom in to 300% then I take my time and outline the subject. After it's outlined and cut, I use the Eraser to take care of any chunks I missed. I then use the Blur on the edges, giving them a blended look. Another trick I use is to create two extra layers of the subject, set both to Overlay and desaturate them. A Guassian Blur of 5 is added to the topmost layer. Another thing that really helps is adding a dimming layer, so to speak; fill an empty layer with the color 020b1a and set it to Exclusion, and it really pulls it together by neutralizing a lot of the colors, so they appear to go together.

I think I'm going to try practicing on the techniques you described above!

I always used the magnetic lasso to outline and then tighten in the view to select or deselect the "pixels." Then, I move the image to where I want it and blur the edges. For as much as I take hours doing this, the image never comes across as clean as yours.

Thank you so very much for sharing your technique!!! I appreciate it and I might actually go back at some point when I have more time and try to redo some of my older images.
