Description Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of the god Inari, located in Fushimi Ward in Kyoto, Japan. The shrine was established in the 8th centre and climbs kilometres up the mountainside. There are over 5000 torii 'gates' in dozens of groupings that branch out and climb between minor shrines, many ornamented with stone fox sculptures. The foxes are the messengers of the god Inari.

Great picture! This is an angle that a lot of people miss. I tried to get this when I visited in the 80's but my "Kodak Disc 4000" had issues which was all the more annoying since that tiny thing cost me $50!

I weep for all the photo ops I missed in travels back in the film days, when every shot cost money and when I had to stretch 36 shots over a weekend! But yes, there are so many angles that just show the gates front on, I found myself looking for other angles.
