Description Kanangra Deep is deep and the spurs are very steep and extra dimensional at sunrise. I'd been sitting on a rock in the freezing dark wet forest for an hour in the rain ... then the rain cleared and the warmth of sunrise was thawing.

This autumn image is displaying autumn hues, in an evergreen Australian bush ... and the blue looking mountains are called the Blue Mountains.

Kanangra Creek below Mount Danae. Kanangra Wilderness. The Southern Blue Mountains.

TGM, thank you. The southern Blue Mountains are wild. I was just thinking about riding my bike cycle touring somewhere interesting over winter and the southern Blue Mountains keeps popping into my head.

The SW Blue Mountains are beautiful, I'm sure you enjoy the long trip.

If you are looking for places to visit?

The route into Kanangra-Boyd, taking the Wollindilly River Road (the Wombeyan Caves Road) rather than going through the centre of the Blue Mountains taking the traffic heavy Great Western Highway, will be a journey that will last with you forever. Then return to Sydney via the Great Western Highway.

The River Cave at Jenolen Caves is a world class cave, in the top 3-4 exhibition caves in the world. The exhibition caves at Wombeyan Caves are equally spectacular. The road goes right past both cave formations in and out of Kanangra-Boyd, in fact the road goes through the caves at Jenolen Caves.

At Kanangra-Boyd a walk out onto the plateau of Mount Maxwell, is simple on a track and extremelly spectacular ... the climb of Mount Maxwell also a simple walk not a climb, looking east over the Blue Breaks ranges, will blow you away.

"... for approval?"

That is a big ask!

I'd be very happy to suggest some places that that you might not know about, that you could be travelling near.

'Hidden Australia' is a huge place you will find.

I can tell from your photography that you're the kind of person that likes to travel in the 'back-country', right? This one is interesting!

Laurice, I certainly do. I like to spend as much time in the bush as possible. When I'm driving I prefer back country roads even if it means doing several hundred kilometres further than speedy highways.

I have another passion for wilderness ... crewing racing yachts in the big wilderness.

The navigation in the bush has been a great advantage to me when navigating boats. Navigating a yacht is a simple task compaired to navigating in the dense bush on foot. Dense bush is perfect for honing my senses for wind and weather and change of direction.

I'm going away tomorrow to race a boat for a few days and I'll return home slowly via the thickest bush I can find.

Warren, your love of the back country is quite fascinating! And I can truly feel your passion, as well, especially through your photos. I can see how your crewing racing yachts complements with what you'd do in the wilderness in terms of navigation.

I'd be interested to hear about your most enlightening experiences, as well as your most harrowing ones. Would you be interested in communicating back and forth with me via notes? You're the first one that I have heard that loves the wilderness and would take the time to travel, appreciate the beauty of many unblemished areas, and photograph various scenes.

I was going to wait until you return from your boat racing before writing you this. But since I got your most recent photos through the Message Center, I thought I'd go ahead and post this one.

Laurice, the conditions weren't suitable for racing the boat this weekend down on the coast. The Skipper normally go out in any conditions, but this weekend was just not on ... the seas when crossing the Bateman's bay bar were too treacherous. I have enjoyed this unexpected break from racing, it has been a most relaxing weekend.

Tomorrow, I'm right back into it ... we will kick boat tomorrow.

it looks like one could get lost in there... i really like the atmospheric effect in this.

Hugh, a young guy died in the Blue Mountains recently when he lost himself. He left his two compagnions to go and find water. The wilderness areas are not places for novice walkers. There are many fine walks on well defined tracks in the Eastern Blue Mountains close to help if needed, for the novices. These Southern Blue Mountains are serious country.

Many have lost their lives here, a quick google will show that. Hail storms are the biggest killer because the water level rise very quickly trapping people in the tight deep canyons and conditions can drop to freezing instantly. Sorry to be so morbid, this wilderness is not a place for experienced young players ... then there are the snakes.

The Eualyptus oil in the air gived these mountains their extraordinary atmospherics and it also makes the forests smell nice.

Hugh, I hope you do find the time to visit. There is a lot more to the natural sides of Oz, than the way we are marketed.
