Description Lichtenstein's Hartebeest, Alcelaphus lichtensteinii, is a relative of the Red Hartebeest which I've already painted: willemsvdmerwe.deviantart.com/… This is a coloured pencil drawing. This hartebeest lives in savannah in central-southern Africa and is named after zoologist Martin Lichtenstein. Its horns are much shorter and differently shaped from those of the Red Hartebeest. It reaches a bodyweight of 150 kg/330 lbs.

This is really amazing. I very much like how you did the lighter-colored grass in the foreground. The negative space effect is trippy, adding nice crisp detail to the foreground without distracting from the hartebeest. I always enjoy how you make the scenery less saturated than the subject, though the good shadow under the animal really ties everything together here. Lovely.

Thank you very much!  I'm starting to enjoy the coloured pencil work ... the practice seems to be paying off.

I like that you paint or draw some of the lesser known species.

You're welcome...................it was a nice piece. Really nice distinction with the colours and the background.

Skin texture and musculature are exceptionally delightful. Colours and crazy-like eyes follow closely I like it even more than the red one.
