Description
Another Afrotherian! This elephant shrew, Macroscelides proboscideus, is about the size of a house mouse. It can be distinguished from other elephant shrews by its large, round ears with hair on the insides. Apart from that, it's a typical elephant shrew, feeding mostly on insects. Its tongue is long and sticky, helping it to lap up ants and termites. This species occurs in the dry regions of South Africa and Namibia. Acrylic.Related content
