Description Have you ever walked through the forest and heard the beating of wings, but find no bird in sight? You think you see just the hint of movement in the green above, but you believe it was just a trick of the light?

Do not be fooled! She dances in the trees, the wings of a hundred birds dancing around her, but you will hear no song nor see a single flashing eye of thrush or wren. Her soul is a vicious one, for she has no mercy for other bloods. That mask...no one knows what lies behind it, whether it is the grotesque countenance of death or the greatest beauty you could ever reach for. Perhaps it is to look into the grasp of immortality? Or maybe your soul would be sucked out and lost in an abyss neither man nor spirit has dared to gaze toward.

When you next hear wings but see none, be sure to hurry from the forest...for such an encounter is not worth your life.

She came out really awesomely m'dear. I love the colour combination, the purple and yellow green works wonderfully together. The feathers on her clothing are so well done, and it took a few looks to get the fact that there actually WERE bird feathers in her dress! I'd say maybe darkening the gaps between the light hair strands would really make them glow (like it does at that very bottom bit in the dark purple) but the image sits well as is.

Thank you. I always seem to find myself steering towards using green with purple...not sure why.

As I've said in IMs, this is a really wonderful piece. She has such a lovely flow and mysterious atmosphere to her with that tinge of dark mystery. The translucent colors especially in the gradients of her wings and the feathery/faerie wing design are really unique!

However, to me this still has a sense of being an unfinished piece because of the lightness of the top left side. I have a feeling you were going for very pale perhaps even glowing hair, but it seems as if that side lacks the refined detail of the rest of the image due to the unfinished blocking in of the hair (especially around the ends which seem kind of blocky which really messes with the flow of the piece, in my opinion). The pale hair on the white background of the outside also makes it get lost and therfore doesn't lead my eye all the way across the piece like it should, especially since the background behind the hair is also a paler blue and lacks the interruption of the purple patterning around the rest of the piece which also helps to draw your eye into that lovely flow.

One way to fix this is to add light accenting with a pale purple outline in certain places around the composition to help continue the pull of the flow daigonally and up and around the moon. Using a color pencil will also help you to refine the ends of the hair which interrupt the flow because of the way they don't end in a nice fine taper (which is a restriction of watercoloring. I know how hard those fine lines are to get especially when you have to paint the space in between instead).
Here's a bit of accenting I did in Photoshop. It's not as crisp and neat as an actual color pencil would be though.

OR you can continue the purple blotting of the background within the negative space between the hair since it stops so abruptly in the original. This would add contrast and pop those pale strands right out, as well as making the background more continuous in that area and working with the flow of composition.
Like so: [link]

OR do both and have a bit of blotting AND outlining which I think works best to bring emphasis back to the left without getting rid of your glowiness.

Whew that was alot! Hopefully I'm not too annoyingXD But I wouldn't be leaving this much of a comment if I didn't have faith in this piece being one of your best I want you to make it even better than it is since the potential is there, in my humble opinion.

Thanks, but I wanted the strands to be that pale, and painted it as such. I'll be putting this one into Dragon Con, if I can find room @_@

Well they'd still be pale with a bit of outlining. The outlining would just help them look pale and not unfinished (or if you went the other route with blotting the bg they'd stand out more as pale and glowy). I only suggest it since it's a very subtle and easy thing to change which would improve the balance of your composition greatly, (ESPECIALLY if it's going to a show).. but tis your decision.

I just did all my panel measuring this weekend and it's quite the awkward space! I can fit about 2 8.5x11, 1 16x20, 4 4x6, and 1 11x14 (assuming they all have frames or matts and also leaving space for the little bid sheets at the bottom). The 16x20 would be horizontally positioned and the rest vertically. I'm not sure if that gives you an idea of the space or not, but that's my arrangement

Mwah! Now just gotta sit down and figure out the print shop and add those to the big order. Weee!
