Description I'll just do a quick painting practice, yeah, I'll do that for a couple hours and then do more important things!
Yeah.
Nope.

Yes, I know she's off model, that was intended.
No, it wasn't quick, it took far longer than I'd like to admit.
No I'm not happy about that or the outcome.
Yes, I still need a ton of practice.

It goes in scraps because I hate looking at it and yet I'm uploading it to validate the fact that I spent far too long on this.
Ok, that's not a valid reason to put it in scraps. I shouldn't be ashamed of my failures. Besides, any constructive feedback would be appreciated.

I like how lithe and athletic she looks. I've often thought I would like to see some artist draw the mane 6, not particularly overly stylized, but with subtle differences in body type, size, and shape to differentiate them from each other. Rainbow Dash would probably look exactly like this, Fluttershy would be tall and very thin, Applejack would be muscular, Twilight Sparkle would be small and slight, Rarity would be feminine and curvaceous, and Pinkie would probably be, um, normal-looking I guess.

THIS.
One of my first misgivings about the show was that they used all the same body templates. Obviously I knew why they did it, but it still bothered me as an artist. So one of the ideas on my mess of Ideas Post-it's is to draw the mane 6 as if they were designed without a deadline. This was sort of an attempt at RD with this in mind. In my xmas comic I drew AJ slightly boxier, but it wasn't really trying at it.
Your descriptions are pretty much spot on, though I'd make Pinkie a little plumper.

That would be great, and a worthwhile project! As to Pinkie - she is an enigma. It's hard to imagine anyone chubby being able to bounce and jump and run at warp speed and generally be as spastic as she is, yet she never stops eating. That's why I'm torn as to whether she is or isn't a bit plump.

That's what would make her funnier to me. Being rounder than Dash but still being able to do the things she does. Like in Party of One when she's chasing after Dash and Dash is constantly flabbergasted that she can be there first and keep up. Making her plumper just adds to it for me. Plus it just adds more variation, and I like that too.
I'll get around to it...just like all the other things on my post-its.

Well, it would be a positive thing to show that people/ponies of all body types can be physically active.

Sorry I cannot give you any detailed, professional critic but I have to say...
I LOVE THE SHADING, HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

That's alright.
The shading? That's mostly why I was having trouble. I spent ages redoing sections, mostly her forelegs, because I couldn't get it to look how I wanted.
Not quite sure how to answer really. The brush I used was 'Oil Heavy Flow Dry Edges', which I pretty sure is a standard photoshop brush.
Oh, I start by blocking out her shape by using a dark colour, in Dash's case dark blue, and then paint over that in a clipping mask. I don't go right to the edge, to maintain a sort of outline. That way the outline looks a bit more integrated with the painting that by adding the outline on top.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for the sincere reply.
It really helped. I didn't know how to get my shadings like that, but I think it's starting to make sense for me thanks to you.

I made a very quick step-by-step, to help illustrate what I was trying to say [link]
