Okay, so the army of super heroes was a bad plan. Adam Warlock intentionally sent them against Thanos thinking they'd get killed, and they did. His plan was to "distract" Thanos by letting him murder each one of them, one by one, brutally...and then wait until the very last moment and let Silver Surfer steal the Infinity Gauntlet. Yeah, that plan made no sense, so it failed.
But that's okay, Adam also had an army of comic gods and deities. Why didn't he use them first? Because we wanted to see heroes get killed. That was the entire point.
Probably the most powerful of the Cosmic Beings is Eternity, who is the abstract representation of all existence in the multiverse. As old as time, and able to manipulate all of reality itself as he is reality and the time and space within. Ow. My brain hurts now.
Clearly this character was created while high. And that's okay.
Anyway, this guy is stupid powerful. He should beat Thanos no problem, right?
