A sketch of Blast Off, the Combaticon from the G1 cartoon. I love the Combaticons (I drew Swindle earlier, it's here on my DA account)- they're my favorite gestalt team. I always felt for them, given their background story in the cartoon.

Anyway, Blast Off has been on my mind lately and I just discovered something about him that I didn't know before. For whatever reason, I always thought Blast Off had a one-piece visor instead of two eyes. I'm not sure if it's just the way I saw him, or if the animators were sometimes confused too (which may be a possibility, looking at some of the screen caps and comic book drawings from the '80s...)- but I thought he looked a bit like a cyclops. He seemed to have one "eye" on his face and high "cheekbones". Now that I've looked more closely, I see that those "cheekbones" are actually his 2 eyes...I think. I always thought Swindle was the only one with 2 "eyes" instead of a visor.

Now that I have figured this out (I think), it occurred to me that Blast Off seems to change from episode to animator and comic book issue to issue. Sometimes I could swear that he DOES have that single visor and other times he definitely has 2 eyes. What's going on? I have decided, in my mind at least, the answer: he's wearing sunglasses. He has 2 optics/eyes, but wears a one-piece visor he can take on and off as he likes. Yup, makes sense to me. Of course he wears shades, he's cool like that- as he'd be the first to tell you. XD
Thus this silly sketch was born.
And- I'm surprised to say this, but suddenly Blast Off almost seems....cute? Can I call a Combaticon cute? (If I do, I guess I'd better hope they don't have internet or read Deviant Art...XD)
