Description Junglejays are a group of omnivorous corvids found throughout the widespread rainforests of the Americas. Junglejays are significantly more reliant on fruits and seeds in their diets than their ancestors. Despite this they still feed on plenty of animal protein being particularly fond of other birds nestlings. Unusually among corvids junglejays are facultatively zygodactyl being able to move their fourth toe backwards or forwards depending on the situation. Typically a zygodactyl position will be held when perching for long periods of time or having to feed while upside down. Whereas an anisodactyl position will be held when moving quickly between branches where the extra grip gained by the zygodactyl arrangement would only slow them down. Blue billed junglejays like most members of their group are skilled mimics, different individual compose their own songs that often incorporate the sounds of inanimate objects they hear in their forested home and the calls of other animals. Junglejays tend to be monogamous with both sexes being equally well adorned. Despite this they do not strictly mate for life with separations being relatively common. Junglejays are some of the smartest birds of the calidocene.
