Description I dedicate this one to

------------------------------------------------------------------------

A sketch of Beleg Cúthalion. Guardian and companion of Túrin Turambar. Woefully slain by Túrin, a painfull mistake.

The story leads us to believe that Beleg was actually one of the original Elves of the awakening, having 'no sire' and being 'ageless'. He was the ultimate woodsman, captain and master of his own life, having 'no master'.

I sketched Beleg in a ready for action stance. I am not very good at character design and action packed images are not my strength. But I thought that Beleg deserved to be shown with his black yew longbow at the ready. Great warrior and captain, great friend.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Started four big size drawings for this one, but they were all covered with 'fail-sauce'. This is a sketch I made in the right upper corner of one of them, about an hour and a half of work. I work best when I just 'start scribbling'.

So Eri, I hope this one satisfies you! I may do a colour version of Beleg, since I just dubbed him my favorite Elf.

I love this vision of Beleg. The greatest huntsman and tracker of all time (if I recall correctly), very much ready for whatever may come.
Is that Anglachel he has at his side, or some other sword?

I never give it a thought of him being an Elf from the aweking, but you have a strong point there. Really interesting.
Beautiful art.

I've always loved this character, Beleg's definitely one of my favourite elves in whole fantasy literature scene, I love the way master Tolkien described the friendship between him and Túrin. You've drawn him so beautifully, this piece really makes honour to the beautiful character^^ Thanks for sharing this with us

It's a really good picture I like the unusual composition and the precisely drawn weapons. BTW, Beleg has here an interesting kind of armour on his chest - I've never seen something like this before, have you imagined it, or was it used in our world?

woutart In reply to Einaari [2009-09-08 18:14:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I think I saw it in the movie design, sort of 'braided' leather strips, over his elvish chain mail ofcourse, which to me is simply indispensable (I adore chain mail). That chest piece could have been drawn a little better though, I 'll correct it in the color version

It's great to know that you will do a color version - it could be very interesting! Yes, chain mail is a beautiful masterpiece of armour

This is exactly how I pictured Beleg in my mind

It is even better than I expected, if that's possible! Amazing job, thank you!
