Half the time, the only reason that you woke up before 12pm nowadays was because of the pleasant smell of freshly made cinnamon rolls, bacon and eggs, or pancakes. Half dressed with one of Steve’s shirts on and your hair up in what looked like a rats’ nest, you always followed your nose to where your early bird boyfriend was sitting in the dining room, merrily eating his breakfast. It didn't look like he had gotten dressed himself; but you were also still getting used to the thick, brown beard he decided to start growing.

This morning was no different. Out you went, following the delicious smell of Steve’s cooking down from your bedroom and into the common room, where Steve was sitting at the dining room table, munching away at blueberry pancakes, topped with strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream.

Steve was already halfway through eating his meal when he looked up, and eyed you up and down.

“Morning, beautiful,” he greeted, with a happy grin and raised eyebrows as he observed your morning state.

You coughed. “Mornin’.” You reply simply, pulling down the bottom of the shirt to make sure it covered your bottom. Not that it mattered, nobody else would wake up for another hour at least.

When you shuffled up to the kitchen, you saw that Steve had already made 3 pancakes for you, which were sitting in the pan with the stove turned off, which meant fresh and warm pastry. There was also a plate with a fork and knife all ready to go, and some sliced strawberries were still fresh in a bowl.

“So…. red, white, and blue pancakes.” You say, grinning to yourself as you placed the strawberries and more whipped cream than you should on your food.

You heard Steve hum in affirmation as you made your way back to sit next to him at the table. You hadn’t started eating yet, and Steve was smiling away at you.

“So,” you started, picking up your fork. “What do they taste like?” You asked, genuinely curious of how good Steve’s blueberry pancakes were. For a moment, you didn’t realize the reference you had made. Steve still looked at you, thinking, until his smile grew childish. When he put that face on, you knew there was a joke incoming.

Barely able to keep in a laugh Steve tried to make a straight face. Steve took in a deep breath. “America.” He stated, proudly.

Both of you pursed your lips until you both began to spurt out laughter. “Oh my god, Steve,” You managed to say, between your laughs.

You two had barely managed to slow down your laughter as Tony shuffled into the room, squinting at you sitting at the table. “What’s so funny?” He wondered aloud.

You sucked in a deep breath, wiping a tear from your eye. “America,” You stated, mocking Steve’s voice. Both you and Steve erupted in laughter again.

Tony just stood there, speechless and confused.
