Ah! Look at that! Very good! It reminds me of "Music of the Dolphins" by Karen Hesse (ironically, the main character is raised by dolphins)

Thanks! And that's the novel that inspired this, actually.

Daaaang, when I first saw this, I thought it was a traditional painting! I like the uneven, painterly feel you achieved with this, xdragonflyx. There is also a book about this subject, "The Music of Dolphins," although the author's name escapes me.

Yeah, that book was actually one of the contributing influences to do this piece.

Woah, what a coincidence--so you've heard of "The Music of Dolphins," too?

Yep! I read it several times as a child.

It was quite good, huh? I saw the book at a local library sometime last summer. Hmm, think I'll borrow it next time I'm there.

I'm jealous too. I can't decide if I would've liked being raised by wolves or dolphins better though. I like how the water looks like the inside of an oyster shell.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xdragonflyx In reply to BlairOntheWing [2008-11-25 18:00:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm equally torn between those two as well. There are definite disadvantages to the whoel ocean thing (barnacles, so much salt!) but still, they're DOLPHINS.

BlairOntheWing In reply to xdragonflyx [2008-11-25 21:30:43 +0000 UTC]

Indeed! And the disadvantages to the wolves would be the rough weather... but I like the cold better.

I KNO RITE.
Dumb kids. So not fair.
Like MOGLI(sp). Omg! Wolf-child! D:
And he turned out just fine in the end too.
Not like in most stories where the kids end up dying when they take them out of the wilderness. XD;
ANYWAY.
Lovely, lovely picture Zeelee! I LOVE how the water looks! And the dolphins! <33 I can't draw those. :C But you did quite excellent!

xdragonflyx In reply to Alueus [2008-10-04 16:54:09 +0000 UTC]

I like drawing water. XD

I personally think that if the child has been raised by wild animals for a good many years, they should be left alone with their animal family. Otherwise they're most likely past the developmental stages crucial for learning verbal language and social structures, and will NEVER be able to fit into society. It's cruel to keep them locked up and confused when they could be free and content with their animal family. Granted, humans can protect them from disease and disaster, but I think the lesser of the two evils would be natural disease and disaster. Not man-made captivity.

Beautiful peice; your colors are well put together and the textures are lovely. The only thing is the the girl is a bit awkward; she doesn't seem to mesh with the rest of the scene. Just from the way you drew her, that's all. It would stand fine on its own with just the dolphins, probably.

xdragonflyx In reply to Xevv [2008-10-04 15:43:47 +0000 UTC]

You know, I noticed that too! I was trying to figure out what it was, and ended up thinking it's because she seems a little bit more 3-dimensional than the rest of the piece.

Xevv In reply to xdragonflyx [2008-10-05 01:50:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, actually, that's probably why. The line weight is also a little heavier. But it's not really a big deal; the painting is still beautiful.
