The story reminds me of the roadrunner cartoons.(Note: That doesn't mean I think the latter came first, for those who were going to say that.) However, it's not mentioned in the cartoon's origins.

So gorgeous. Reminds me of some Art Nouveau pieces as well as particular piece by Van Gogh with the lines and the tree.

Wow. This is just... you need to illustrate a storybook. I'm serious. This is gorgeous. The grass and the bark and the blossoms and the hair... wow. Great ink work.

Thank you! You in the Lansing area, then? Unfortunately I haven't seen it yet, being on the western side of the mitten.

This is lovely...the colors are beautiful and I especially like the the balanced composition with the forms of the deer, the tree and the slope.

So amazing. Shows you what texture does for a piece. Who needs tons of shadows and highlights when fluid lines and texture really make a piece. Definitely a great work. Thanks for it.

I know you said that this is a lot of flat coloring, but i mean... how does the whole texture come into play? do you find it first then work your way over it? Or finish painting then put the texture in?
I've been trying to get into this flat coloring but it's so hard for me : (. I just seem to keep making it not so flat. And I hate that. =/

I have a huge folder of collected texture images that acts as my texture library, so in a way most of them are already found. However, on an actual illustration I do start painting before applying textures. Sometimes, though, I get the results I want by applying a texture to an object first and then painting on top of the texture. I think it's really personal preference... I know some artists paint everything and then add a texture. I can't really say I do /all/ of the painting first, though, because I really paint some, apply some textures, paint some more, play with textures, and so forth until I get something I'm satisfied with.
It's a lot of working back and forth between the two, so this probably isn't a very clear-cut answer, but I hope it helps! A lot of my technique comes from experimenting and discovering what works for me and what doesn't. If you're having trouble keeping the flat look, I'd suggest practicing with JUST flat colors, and initially adding some textures at the end. See if you can go from there. It might force your mind to think differently by approaching it in a new way.

You did an excellent job combining the elements of a Japanese feeling design with a Greek undertone and story line. Wonderful! Is this going to be a series in the future?!

Thank you! And it is part of a Greek mythology series of 6, you should be able to find the others in my gallery: the Chimera, the Sirens, Europa & the Bull, Icarus, and Actaeon.

Ohh, that would be pretty cool. A lot of my pieces would probably translate very well. Ironically, my dad is a glass artist who started out working in stained glass (he's now moved to sandblasting).

Precisely! The Ceryneian Hind had golden antlers, but was specifically referred to as 'female'. Historians think it was most likely a reindeer. ^^

Although I do like the deer, I think that the leaves on the tree make this picture really stand out.
Nice art.
