Description
Skyward Sword Link's Shield~I had to use 4 sheets of cardboard to cover the surface of the shield, since it's rounded and cardboard hates life when it comes to getting it to co-operate...
Now that the surface is finished, details will be added to complete it~

My sister is trying to make the same thing and wants to know what type of glue you used. She is kind of new with props and thinks that this is amazing. Some types of glue "eat" at the foam and thats no good. Did you use a specific type? This is really cool my the way.

I use multi-temp glue on certain thin foams, which is a slightly lower heat then a typical hot-glue gun. It'll still burn you so be careful, and you use glue sticks and a gun the same way. You can find it usually in the crafts section of stores. Otherwise, I just use hot glue all the time, it just takes a little practice to apply quickly, so it doesn't eat the materials.

Yes, that's right! I glued it all inside, then carved it down to shape.

I get almost all my materials for free, I hoard shipping foam and cardboard when something crosses my eye at work (I work retail, so we get a lot of shipping & marketing). I'd say use what you have already, that way you don't have to pay extra. Free materials are great too incase you make mistakes, you don't have to stress about it.
Foam board is amazing, I think it'll be a lot easier to carve and shape too, so I wish you the best of luck! It's a lot of fun~

here's Β my current costume version. Made from scratch (other than the belts) and basically came up with it. I didn't have a pattern, but It turned out really well! Obviously the glasses and the hair won't do, so I got a wig, and I'm planning on stumbling around a lot

Give it a little trim.
If you're worried you'll cut too much, have the wig on while cutting, and take less than needed. I'm always worried about cutting because it's not like real hair... and won't grow back.
