Description Inspired by Ben Walters ' Heckler and Koch G36C ], I decided to build it, and this gun has become my recent favorite...even more so than my Steyr AUG/USR .

The barrel is removable and can be replaced with longer or shorter barrels. The inside portion that you don't see is hollowed out to the approximate size of a 5.56 x 45mm NATO slug. Of course, it's not exact, because LEGO bricks limit precise replication.

The gas piston in the front is visible, as in the real gun. The front lobe is a terrible remake of the real thing. That could use improvement.

I have used the magazine curve idea that George Bytenskiy used on his Kalashnikov AK-47 . Robert Peele has expressed his concerns on the idea of the curve and I think he has a good point, but I don't have the bricks necessary to curve it otherwise.

The magazine is also removable. There is no magazine catch/release mechanism because I ran out of ideas for fitting my existing one on my Steyr AUG/USR into a smaller space. I would have built another mechanism, of course.

The stock, like the one on Ben Walters ', folds, but this one locks in the folded position. I'm not sure if his does the same. When unfolded, three 1/2L Technic Pins snap the stock to help keep it open. I did not incorporated the real lock because it was too fragile and I had no idea how to make it. However, I did include the piece that represents this lock, which juts out visibly when the stock is folded.

I angled the pistol grip just right, but it's a bit wavy. I don't have many high angled slope bircks. The trigger guard takes a dip away from the pistol grip and moves upward just a little bit, just like on the real gun. The trigger is very unusual and primitive. I want to replace it with something better.

I had trouble with the front sight. This is the best I can do for now. I'm fresh out of ideas for a realistic front sight. I got the rear sight down pretty well.

A point I included on this gun, which gets me really excited, is the charging handle. This not only operates by moving back and forth, it also moves the ejector slider inside the gun. The really big bonus is that that ejector slider ejects real 5.56 x 45mm ammunition! Watch the videos [1 and 2 ] in my Brickshelf folder to see the action.

The only part of this gun that is not LEGO is the selector swicth area image. I really wanted to show the outlined slugs on the ambidextrious selector switch. So, I recreated it using reference pictures and Microsoft PhotoDraw and printed it out. I adhered it to the gun with precision and cleanliness.

The selector swith itself took a while to get it to work on both sides of the gun at the same time, but I got it. A Technic Rod connects the two switches, which are very fragile, including the connections between the switches and the rod, and allows the switches to move to simulate changing from safe to semi-automatic to fully automatic.

I understand that there is still much to do with this creation, but I think this version is worthy of a DeviantArt page. Please, tell me what I can do to improve if you see anything that needs improvement. I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks.

This gun is dedicated to Ben Walters for his inspiration and kindness towards my suggestions. Good luck with the contest, Ben!

Sorry, I'm a 'realer'. I go to the shooting range every now and then. Airsoft guns don't appeal to me as much as the real things or my LEGO recreations. Thanks for the invitation, though!

When I said airsofter I didn't mean one those guys who sits in a chair and plinks cans all days. I mean airsoft as in the sport of carrying 50 pounds of tactical gear that you may or may not need, using combat tactics in a realistic combat situation and shooting your friends or whoever happens to be at the game you're attending.

Note: High end guns HURT when you are on the recieving end, so if you are a wuss then this sport is not for you.

Ah, I see. I misunderstood the term. Now I know and I may get into it later. I need to use the stamina I have for studies. I might try it sometime. Thanks.

Thanks. Took me a lot of work, but it's well worth it. Version 2 is hanging on my bedroom wall. It scares the robbers away.

Cool... How long did it take for you to build this?

xjcdentonx In reply to Albrtd3 [2007-03-18 20:12:44 +0000 UTC]

Quite a long time. About 2 or 3 months with mods every now and then. It took a long time to get a working and realistic extractor. That part was the most difficult. Most of the time spent was on getting all of the black pieces, some which came from my MP5. I really didn't want to destroy it, but it was in the best interest of my creation. The three guns I still have are HK G36C, Steyr AUG/USR, and Colt M4A1 Carbine. The G36 is my favorite.

Ah, the Fabrique National P90. A few have attempted such a weapon, but did not succeed in my standards. They all did the best they could, and I'm waiting for more bricks to begin my next project.

As for 3D modeling, it's not easy, but it's totally fun and entertaining. Self-satisfying once you get something. I'm hoping to render my G36C on AutoCAD sometime in the future.

Perhaps you should try a P90.

I know it would be hard though, heck it's a challenge for me to 3D model.

Excellent work! I really like the ejector idea. The barrel changing ability is also nice. Heck, it's all cool! I know what a pain doing those fragile bits are, so I admire you for taking on this project.

Hah! Nice. The G36 Family is my favourite family of assault rifles. Very nice.
Very cool how you got it to be an actual folding stock.

Awesome.

Thanks a bunch! After building it, and after critiquing Ben Walter's version, it became my favorite rifle. I'm looking into building the HK416 soon...the gun that fixed the M16's "dirty" problems. The HK416 at HKPRO

Kudos!
