Description Ganienkeh / Independant North American Indian State

Wiki[link]

On May 13, 1974, the vanguard of the Mohawk Nation with the help of traditional from other
Indian nations moved back to the ancient Ganiekeh, lost by fraud some 200 years ago.

They occupied the Moss Lake area and declared the Independent North American Indian State of Ganienkeh, separate
from both, the U.S. and Canada.

The Mohawks at Ganienkeh do not belong to a federally recognized tribe, nore are the 5.700 acres they own a reservation.
Instead, the state took the land into trust for Ganienkeh residents.

It is not affiliated with the St.Regis Mohawks or any other groups.
Ganienkeh founding was the rare case of indigenous people reclaiming land from the United States.
