What the hell? Why is DA being so diffecult with categorization?! I wanted to section this in anthro but had to put this in Fanart?*mumbles*
I'll put this in the scraps later for what it's worth.
New design, Wraith. He is rising from a bunch of oil and seaweed on the coastline. Who tried to kill and bury him there in the first place obviously did a bit of a bad job. He's back, with oil slick coating his fur.

Okay, this is Wraith's new design. Yet again. He started off as a Shadow recolour [link] (April 2003- May 2004). Then ~LWMusicoftheNight came up with a template [link] which I slightly modified [link] Notice how I added little strands, chopped the quills and changed direction and flare? No? N/m....
And now this is the new quill style. It is wild, haphazard, sharp, perhaps a bit weird- but I like it and that is what counts. Ultimately it's important to have a design which looks competent from various angles, I think.
The quill style was slightly inspired by Kazuya Mishima (Tekken 1,2), and Deacon Frost (stephen Dorff) from Blade. They both have icey personalities and I dig their sharp hairstyles. I really wanted to apply some of that, to this.
Tuft of fur stays because at the end of the day, he is a genetically engineered Shadow Clone, created by GUN. A large part of his bitter personality is the fact that he struggles to come to terms with his identity, being a manipulated copy bent under a force's will- which ultimately tears him to pieces. His special power is to project ice beam from his eyes and is known as an 'icey' individual. Despite his powers, his inner torment and incapability to overcome all that haunts him always drags him back down to square one again. His stubborness, complacent and presumptious nature is also a pitfall.
I did not do this, just because of 'Mysery hedgehog', in the new Sonic game. Although I am aware I have involuntarily become a subject of scrutiny and I am surprised at how seriously the community seems to take these things. In all honesty, I was rather apathetic about all this
.Furthermore, I would rather have full custody of the design. Don't want to cause friction or resentment... even if a 'friend' were to come up with, oh-i-dunno, the 'stripe-on-the-tail' idea. -_- I don't do 'joint' anythings anymore. Lol. If I ever get married, I'll definately get my husband to sign a pre-nup. ^^
I did this on ShiPainter Pro. I regret not doing it on PS7... but I guess I was fiddling with the design for 3 solid evenings on Oekaki before I was satisfied.
And that's a wrap. I am off to bed. 4:30AM. Finally I have ascertained some peace with what was bugging me recently.

A very nice presentation of your skills as a digital artst and the outstanding potentaisl you hold both in this piece and your artistic gift.
The character presents an interesting ptrayal of enregy and feel determined to win or get revenged and the detail and facial expression follow this perfectly. The colour is also finely presented and really give the entire design and character some interesting potentials, this especially goes for the detail which is finely demonstrated here.
You've shown an excellent mixture and potentials as a digital artist, keep it up.

Subconciously, I wanted to get those 'wantings for revenge' in Wraith's expression. Glad you picked that up ^__^
Normally I find colours tedious... but colouring him in is fun. Thanks, it's nice to have the colouring acknowledged also.

You my find colouring tedious, but this is a nice diplsay of your skills as an artist and the potnetails you have.

I don;t know when you came up with wraith when compared to when the character designers for sega/sonicteam came up with whathisface who looks like yer char, but I can;t help but wonder if they stalk places like this for character inspiration. . .

Makes a change when someone comments on the expression. That is, if it did yield such an impact. I mean, I do prefer ot when ppl are honest... but I am so sick and tired of the usual 'I love the colours'. It's so dull to hear that. Furthermore, I used to think colour was like, the only thing I was good at. Not that I even think I'm good at colour. Average more like...
Anyway 
I did think it was a coincidence. And usually like to try and think evenly. But every time I see Mephiles drawn by someone, it feels like a slap in the face

Ph now this is AWSOME. I'll start off with the WICKED new design. Because really it is awsome. It still retains the slight influence from Shadow which is entirely fitting, but it shows that he is different andd it looks really well designed. Also, rather than purple is her officially blue now? So yeah, great new design.
Onto the picture itself, I really really love it. Almost looks like a cover or poster to me, in terms of pose especially. And the pose and expression really are excellent, plus they fit together very very well. Same with the softer colouring style, really makes me thing of a sunrise or sunset with the highlights and the background fits this well, as well as being interesting without being too distracting.
The forground is really good as well, IMO. Plus it presents a small story, which is always good in a picture- much better than just doing what many would do and drawing the character design onto a pattern.
Overall, excellent work. I love it. On an unrelated note, what's the news on the fanfiction? is it officially discontinued, or is there any chance of any more story concerning Wraith? he easily has to be my favourite Sonic fanchar. in terms of backstory and I'm very curious to know more

Total badass and awsomeness! If Sega ends up calling this new hedgehog Wraith then thats the total sign that they stole your character! Whatever, at least you have a Sonic character in a game that practicaly is a replica of your character! ^w^

Shadow has an awesome design and I think a lot of us feel safe keeping onto something similiar to his,.. but sometimes it's good to exercise something new. Everyone hated Silver's eyebrow fringe thing at first, even me, but now it looks kinda cool to me

I wanted to do a picture a LONG time ago with oil drippig off a character. Granted maybe a lot of people can't rise from oil and to have survived it XD. I just remember thinking one time a long time ago 'what can I draw what's fluidy apart from water or overated blood?' Voila. I remember watching this whale cartoon 'Samson and Sally'. This poor whale morbidly died when he went up for air on the surface of the water and choked to death.

I will miss the old style to an extent. But I felt like that when I ditched the Shadow recolour as well XD. Because in RP's, you kind of have a picture in your mind about how characters look and when there's change, there is sometimes hesitation but I find it mellows out
But I am glad you like this new design. Now I'm going to have to practise drawing it from angles and such. Fun fun fun... XD

nice new design for him, I am dying to change my hedgehog charcter, Slayer. But either I think it looks crap when I make a new design or I think hedgehogs are over used and I should not try to make a hedgehog, what do you think?
Well now about the pic, I like the shape and design of the quills, not seen many like that. Always loved his colours (I used to visit your gallery long, long before I said watching you...even before I joined dA O_o) dark blue and white/sliver. Well I guess thats it, oh yeah, love the colour style of the background.
