Axel was born to Queen Yue and King Artemis, half Mewman, half monster. While his face and features were mostly mewman, he had his father's skin and teeth, along with a pair of striking yellow eyes.

While the Kingdom overall had no problem with monsters now, Prince Axel still received some amount of scrutiny and teasing over his appearance, also his sharp teeth made children his age reluctant to socialise with him. He had one childhood friend: Trinity Virtue, whose parents had encouraged her to approach him. Trinity came to appreciate Axel and his gifts.

From a young age, Axel decided to pursue the studies of other dimensions, Earth in particular. He learnt about Monster Rights and the History of Mewni. He began to take interests in the modern and fascinating gadgets that immigrants from Earth would bring to Mewni. While this had been happening since Star's marriage to Marco and even more so after their daughter Juniper became Queen, barely any Mewmans had learned to replicate such gadgets or invent their own.

During his wand ceremony, Axel expressed the desire to learn mechanics. His parents granted his wish, putting him under Lord Flare who was one of the few who knew how to create such gadgets. Under the Lord's tutelage, Axel began to excel, and was granted a workshop outside the castle when he was eighteen.

By now, Axel was seen in a very different light by the Kingdom. He was hardworking and meticulous, and heir to the throne. Many of the nobles and commoners who had once looked down on and ridiculed him for his teeth now admired and wanted to be the first girl to date him. Axel paid them no attention, seeing their change as hyprocritical. You could say that Serafina's teachings were still weaving into the system of the Kingdom.

The one who was given the honour of first dating him was Princess Tulip Gardenia. The two met during a Game of Flags match when he was nineteen, and soon began dating. Trinity was thrilled for the two, though after that, she began to drift from Axel, to give him some space and more time for his girlfriend, she said. In actual fact, Trinity confessed to her mother that she felt sad, but had no idea.

A year before Axel was crowned, the family was invited to the Blood Moon Ball. Of course, Axel took Tulip as his plus one, and to his surprise, his family also invited Trinity to attend. Halfway through the ball, Tulip asked to rest. After ten minutes, however, when she did not return, a worried Prince Axel went looking for her, only to find her on the balcony making out with Prince Darren Lucitor. Axel discovered that Tulip had only been using him to make Prince Lucitor(her ex boyfriend) jealous.

Heartbroken, Axel made to run out of the castle. Trinity, however, saw him tearing and caught up to him, right when the Blood Moon was to pick the two lucky souls. The moment she closed her hand over his arm, the light of the moon shone down onto the pair. Despite being stunned, the two began to dance, and soon Axel forgot about the whole Tulip incident. That night, the pair realised they had feelings for each other.

King Axel would become responsible for importing more Earth gadgets to educate the people of Mewni, as well as building them himself. Almost every appliance in the castle was built or designed by him, and when they broke or malfunctioned, it would be him who would repair it. He taught his wife Queen Trinity the basics of repairing some appliances, and opened his workshop to anyone interested to learn.

Trinity bore Axel a daughter, a girl whom was named Aquilia. The two also later gave Aquilia two younger sisters, Meredith and Corona Butterfly.

Years later, Aquilia would cause another stir in the Kingdom through her refusal to marry and reign as a single Queen and mother.
