Hem.... submitting this because I haven't updated in so long? I actually made this quite some while back (and really don't like it much) but never ended up showing this?Medium: Gouache on wasli
Time: A week? (forgot!
)(Fu... now I don't even feel like writing a description *has been attacked by the uninspirational laziness?*) Anyways, its Lancel, the chakram wielder of the guardian knights (who really, really doesn't look like himself >.> ). For the longest time, I had felt like making ninjas and assasins fighting in the night. Er... however, the knight Lancel became more and more prominent and the ninjas just went woosh into the background. -.-' *failure* (Can you see the liiiittle ninjas on the rooftops? XD)
(Ah.... there was a story behind this too, but I'm too lazy/blahed to write it.)

its very graphical and the movement of the characters and of the weapons is nice and the force with which Lancel is moving it seems like he's done with the ninja and ready to jump out and clobber the spectators

Not really actually? I find watercolors the easiest medium. as long as you don't get too nervous and use too less or too much water (depending on the situation) you ought to be fine. Good brushes and paper (especially the paper!) makes a lot of difference though?

Well I do use watercolors... but I just am curious on how you apply them? Light colors first? Or do you use a type of rubber application when applying darker colors? Your soo good!

Usually, I almost always start off with the background, as boring as I may feel it to be. It depends though, if I reaaaaaallly want to paint a figure I might want to start off with that first and then curse my way through the background.
As for dark-light colors, in watercolors, yes, I always put a light (or comparatively lighter XD) base of color first, if I have to shade it later. In gouache though, (since that's waterbased too - like this painting!) it doesn't matter. At times I may put a dark wash first and render/shade it with a lighter color.

Yes, I really do like those chakrams. I think they look really nice. I don't see that weapon portrayed often and when I do see it, it's normally just for the novelty of it and they end up looking like circles that people beat people with. Yours look really fierce. I like the design of them with the spikes and all.

hahah, wow O_o, cool 8D I really like your moon XD I've always tried to paint a moon but for some reason my brain just...dies x-x Amazing detail with the sandy ground, just wow!

Yes indeed! Assassins truly be sexy! XD (sadly though, none are in this painting! [well... technically ninjas are assasins, but that's not what I had been thinking of] XD)
But really, I hated this pic so much that I never thought I'd show it to anyone. (why you ask? Ah well... Lancel just looks so... ridiculous >.> (he's reminding me of Zexion for some reason) His hair is usually not so poofy, I suppose?)

That backgroudn of night is awesome... espeacially how it isnt ALL black..O_O and how it fades into th emoon and rooftops is really cool.. T_T (and the shadow on the moon!)

Yaaaaaaaay! So good to hear from you again...and with such a wonderful pic as well!
What I really love about this one is how you've brought out the lines a little more and made the whole thing look very crisp and neat and very much caught in the moment. You do so well at showing the motion of the chakrams too. I think with the way the rest of the picture is so stopped it time...makes them look even faster...and Lancel that much more impressive.
Also really like the way you've done the different textures - the uber smooth moutains for one - even if they're not as realistic that way, I think I like them better and they really set the scene without drawing away the attention too much. I think it gives the feel that he's really kinda surrounded wherever he is...and that he's still fighting back just adds to his coolness.
But yeah....

So the chakrams do look whirry/moving? Somehow making moving chakrams was so much easier in pen!
