Ahrum has some great stock. I think this is fine work on your part. Do you usually use a grid when you draw?

Thank you, I appreciate your supportive and kindly words.
Ahrum's stuff is amazing isnt it - he is a gem.
I only started painting this year, and sketching with pencils in the last few weeks. Before that I had not drawn or painted anything with any reference (pic or life) since I left school at 16, and had not painted at all in the last quarter of a century......so having begun painting as an adult, I have used grids for my paintings and tried both with my the more recent drawings. In a way I think it's 'cheating' but on the other hand it tends to allow for much better results, in terms of getting a likeness. Devil and the deep blue sea really......but I know practice is the answer - hence the move over to drawing instread of only painting. I'm emjoying it because its so easy to pick up and put down at any time.

Only under a year? You are quite remarkable!
I don't think the grids are cheating. Seems to me it's kind of like if you have 3 great singers perform the same song. Each will have their own distinct interpretation - rendered in the uniqueness of their individual voices.
Perhaps I can gain the courage from you to (re)begin sketching again, myself. I'm embarassed to say how long it's been...

What a delightful analogy - thank you. You are a gem.
I hope you do start sketching again - and dont be embarassed, it can't be longer than I left it! I was increasingly fantasising about painting, but it was just something I thought I would do when I retire....it took my loved ones in the spirit world to tell me that I shouldnt wait.....and I cant tell you how much difference its made to me. I had gotten out of the habit of doing anything creative, because work was draining me so much, but to my amazement, drawing actually really energises me aand I find it hard to stop. I think that's because I have so much catching up to do, but the way it keeps me up at night is still amazing, as Im otherwise so in need of rest. I find it amazingiy therapeutic.
If you have that urge - please dont resist it.
