ahem, correction:
the subtle merging of the woman's arm with the man's torso, by means of painstaking colour correction and blending is a semiological reference to the overall theme of diversity, wherein the two ethnically and physically separated figures are, on a more subtle level, becoming conjoined, in an esoteric sense, by the music they share. Hence the interplay of tone and colour becomes an iconographic indicator of a symbolic venn diagram simultaneously encompassing, whilst also emphasising, differences that both maintain separation and create union.
