Description Name: Hualianceratops wucaiwanensis
Family: Chaoyangsauridae
Size: 1,75 meters long
Diet: Omnivore
Location: China
Time: Late Jurassic (160-148 mya)

Hualianceratops wucaiwanensis was the first and earliest member of the Chaoyangsauridae family. Unlike later members, it seems to have been fairly large, around the size of a spaniel dog, with 1,75 meters long. At this time, it was the largest ceratopsian. It was also one of the earliest ceratopsians ever to have lived, with the holotype seemingly found in the Shishugou Formation, the same one that includes the much more basal Yinlong. Unlike Yinlong, Hualianceratops was more derived, and the simultaneous existence of the two taxa seems to suggest that the ceratopsian lineage starts at a much earlier point. It was also the most recently discovered species of chaoyangsaurid, being described in 2015 by Han Fenglu and others.
