Description A special commission I received yesterday: 'pimped-up' version of mr. Sinister in company of two evil Jean Grey clones inside his secret laboratory. Gambit, Cyclops and Wolverine can be seen on monitor scans (the background was of my own choosing).

This one is related to recent X-event (I don't follow/read those anymore since 2010 for various reasons) where Mr. Sinister appears with some new Jean Grey/Madelyne Pryor clones dressed as his royal consorts (the reference CB page looked interesting I must say that). Essex's appearance is a mix between classic 90s Sinister and the recent one (from refrence scan).

I couldn't turn this commisson down since I always wanted to draw Sinister, one of my favorite Marvel villains and it is always fun to draw Jeanie, even if in this case it is/are just another of her so many ('Hope'less) clones

I agree He would make a great HFC member. Don't forget he has the power to change his appearance whenever he wants.

BTW I always liked the design of his original uniform; it fits his personality and powers so well.

No I dont mean that appearance I meant more their attitudes about trying to be captains of Industry..of course I forgot he technically was HFC as Miss Sinister

Ugh, miss Sinister, one of those more 'brilliant' ideas from so called house of ideas. Sometimes I think the whole 'changing famous villain into his female version' has almost become some sort of fetish among those writers and editors. It happens way too often.

This remimds me that I received some requests to do a female versions of certain CB characters. That can be interesting project. Three years ago I did a female version of Captain, Cannonball and Quicksilver.

Heh they kinda did a female version of Quicksilver in the MC2 (aka Spidergirl universe) with Blue Streak...and just realized there was a Magneta there (albeit just some girl with Magnetic powers not Magneto turned into a girl

Has their white hair ever been explained? It is probably part of their mutant gene code like in Polaris' case (green hair).

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2012-11-27 01:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Although drawn white mostly the hair was intended to be SILVER as to Magneto's hair well that is just due to him being old. (He is in his early 80s)

But CB version of Mags already had silver/white hair during WW II era/concentration camp.

I liked X-Men Evolution theory that his white hair was a product of sudden power overload.

Thats possible then I just recall them showing him as a kid with normal hair but that may have just been lazy artists

In CBs (original CC's story) he had white hair as a kid/teenager but in movies and cartoons like Evolution he had brown hair. Yeah the artists are often lazy, especially if they are paid too well

Well, speaking about Magneto, I hate what they did to him in last couple of years. He was one of my favorite Marvel characters, maybe even the favorite villain/antihero but they turned him into DarkCyke's favorite lapdog. Then they tried to establish him into heroic character and the 'voice of reason' and now he is back as Cyke's follower. I have been waiting for turnaround but this has been going on for far too long.

They were most recently in Daken's Brotherhood

That is true.

Did you know that Omega Red appeared as selectable character in Capcom's fighting game series (Marvel vs Capcom) and X-Men: COA fighting game from 1994 (this was the first time when I heard about him, before watching TAS)?

I still remember the summer nights of 1998 and arcade game machine with X-Men vs Sreet Fighter. My favorite character from that game was Rogue, because she could kiss anyone with abstract hearts flying around lol.

Well, that was the 'funny' way how she absorbed powers from other characters in the game. Then the player who controlled Rogue could use their main power (Cyke's optic blast for examp) for short period of time.

Yeah many times the programers just got lazy, especially in fighting games where we have Ryu, Ken, AKuman and Dan (same charactr with different faces, voices, moves and costume colors) and Mortal Kombat ninjas; Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Kitana, Mileena, Jade etc (although they made important improvements/differences to their looks in MK9).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2012-12-16 18:10:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah well modern times it would be lazy but back then it was done for a very important reason....programming space. A simple palate swap took up much less space in it then designing full on new characters. So they could give you more characters and still work on the systems of the day

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2012-12-17 10:25:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I read about that. The worst case of palete swap technique was Mortal Kobmat Trilogy where you had 8 male (not counting 3 ninja-cyborgs and 1 unmasked ex-ninja) and 3 female ninjas. And had ridiculous-really stupid finishing options like Brutality and Animality.

Yeah babality (and friendship too) may looks stupid now with realistic 3D graphics, but it was quite fun when it first appeared in MKII as it was beyond ridiculous and added some laughter to the dark tone of the game.

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2013-02-06 20:56:29 +0000 UTC]

Ehh to me it was always stupid (of course I always prefered SF over MK (and heck I put KI over MK as well)

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2013-02-06 22:43:22 +0000 UTC]

Actually I prefer MK to SF, but only slightly as both series are great IMHO. But I always prefered epic Eastern mythology & mysticism with realistic graphics against anime-like, more cartoonish approach.

KI? You mean King of FIghters?

No Killer Instinct many call it a game rip off (and their were a few characters that were influenced by other games)
But I loved the selection of character killer robot, Raptor, Warewolf, Walking Skeleton, Conan

and IMO had the best soundtrack for any fighting game

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2013-02-07 11:08:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I borrowed that game from my friend back in the day. And many of characters had really cool designs. And every character had a 'finish move', but not as gruesome as in MK games. You forgot to mention the guy from ice/liquid metal, Human Torch rip-off and lady in green dress who transformed her opponent into a frog

Yeah it was the best soundtrack. Rise of the Robots soundtrack came close at it was written by Brian May (Queen's guitarist) but the game sucked as it was almost unplayable.

Have you ever played old fighting game called World Heroes 2 for Neo Geo console/arcade system (it was also released for SNES I think)?

It was nothing special when it comes to fightign system but it featured lots of ineresting characerts like:
-Rasputin- mad monk from Russia
-Brocken - nazi cyborg general from Germany
-Jean D'Arc - 'iron maiden' from France
-Captain Kidd - pirate captain with his own flag
-Ocenaia native with tribal mask
and many more

Well, Street Fighter 2 for SNES and Mortal Kombat 1 for PC were among the first video games I ever played (alongside Prince of Persia, Golden Axe, Dangerous Dave, Duke Nukem and Doom for PC), so I 'felt in love' with fighting games instantly. I was lucky those were my first fighting games and not crap like Rise of the Robots or Brutal- Paws of Fury.

Cool but less known fighting game from the 90s were War Gods (PC) and Double Dragon V (SNES). Time Killers had cool characters but terrible gameplay. I mention TK and WG because they were similar to MK with their fatality options.

My first games were the NES one at a friend games like Duck Hunt, Track meet (with pad like the only game they made for it) Wizards and warriors and Mega Man....but didnt play them much until much later when I got my own system but I always got systems right as they died (Got SNES and 2-3 months later they announce they are ending support for it to move to N64 etc)

The only time when I made a mistake and bought a new console (which was already used) and haven't played it for more than 5 months (about 2 times a week) was when I bought Sega's Dremcast. Main reasons why I decided to sell it after 5 months passed: this console was already 'passe' as Playstation 2 came out the same year and the games were hard to find, then you had to buy special saving cards to save individual game progress and my console also lacked 2 player joystick (and I always like to compete friends). Plus the games were expensive and hard to get.

Yeah Memory Cards are now all the rage and sometimes hard to get for older systems. I was glad I was able to snag 2 large memories and tarnsfered the stuff from my smaller cards on to them

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2013-02-27 15:52:42 +0000 UTC]

This was way too complicated option of saving your playing progress to last for long. I'm glad the era of memory cards is over. Sometimes I wish I could play certain PS2 games like Resident Evil 4 on PS3. There is an option via Playstation Store where you can bought some of them via pay-download but I am against creditcard internet buying.

michiganj24 In reply to yerbouti [2013-03-02 22:57:07 +0000 UTC]

Wait I am confused I was under the impression that the PS3 was backwards compatible...so why cant you play those games?? And so they eliminated memory cards?? What did they do instead...Save onto the game itself?? Codes??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yerbouti In reply to michiganj24 [2013-03-05 15:58:12 +0000 UTC]

You save them on system memory-hard drive (similar to PC's way of saving). My PS3 has/had 80GB of free space, but later version already have more than 300GB of space.

The early versions of PS3were both PS1 and PS2 compatible but later ones are only PS1 compatible. They decided for that becuase they wanted to create more free place for saving and to create other applications. However some of the more popular PS2 games were later converted for PS3 (with advanced graphics/HD resolution) and some of them can also be bougth via Playstation store. I don't like this a single bit. There were times when I considered buying used PS2 console to play those old games. But to tell you the truth most of PS3 game are so much better & advanced in comparision (on so many different fields) that I don't miss playing PS2 games that much.
