I doubt it. Its looking like the Republicans might support it to swing a few Hispanic votes their way.

I see no reason to go around gerrymandering. As for Puerto Rico, they have never voted in favour of becoming a State.

I think that's part of what might help bring them into the Union without this plan, they're leaning more right these days (like a lot of places that used to lean Democratic these days, and while there is a good reason for that I'm not gonna get into it). Jefferson would be the smallest State in the Union by Population, so I don't think it'd be a good idea to make it a state, Jeff Stone's California is Jerrymandering on a national level, and Baja Arizona would create a true border region which is always a bad idea.

Nah, the line goes pretty much down the eastern side of the Cascade Range, I think its fine as is.

Good idea, but I think California would split into northern and southern states, thinking that if Washington and Oregon get to merge/split Idaho then they should have the same right.
And there goes balance in the electoral college...

Oh come on Western Washington and Western Oregon (accept for maybe the southern half of western Oregon) are basically the same state.

Whatever happened to letting the Puertoriquienos deciding for themselves what they wanted? (love the conceptial pacific northwest you have, as an Oergonian myself. But what about the preposed seperation of Nothern California into the state of Jefferson?)

The state of Jefferson would have a population of 400,000, even by the most generous proposals, it would be the smallest state by population. There are small cities with more people, and by that logic I doubt it will ever happen, personally I think this proposal (I first heard about expanding Idaho over Eastern Oregon in a book called Lost States) makes more sense because they'd all be reasonably large enough to justify statehood (Personally I still think Wyoming should be split between Utah, Colorado and Montana.)

Hmm... Hadn't thought about it population-wise, but you're right.

I've been thinking about it too, the Virgin islands and Pacific territories make sense, they are pretty small. But in terms of population and area Puerto Rico is larger than several current states.
Every day delayed strengthens independence movements.

Well, if and when we make Puerto Rico a state, it would make sense to bring the U.S. Virgin Islands in as part of the state since they're only 64 km from Puerto Rico itself.

Sounds good, though the Virgin islands and Puerto Rico both have rather different cultures, that's the main problem I see.
