Description

Until the Joker shoots you.

So of course, Phil decides to do something fun and cracky for his half of our art trade and I DECIDED IT WOULD BE FUN TO PUT ON MY SATAN PRADA AGAIN. What we have here is actually something that's been in my head for a long time. We're talking long time as in, since Phil finished chapter five of his fanfiction, Claw. In chapter five we learn that his little band of OCs (co-created by the lovely DerbyMask ,) that Harley Quinn kidnapped and sort of molded to fit the idea of a family for her and Joker have narrowly escaped being caught along with Harley... only to have Joker turn on them and begin shooting at them (because quite frankly, he never cared about them anyway.) He shoots to kill them all, but for the most part, the kids all manage to get through that physically unscathed.  All except the youngest, Jimmy.

Now in a oneshot Phil wrote called Under The Armor, we learn that Jimmy looks up to one of the other boys in the gang, Lance, even more than he looks up to any of the other kids, or Harley or Joker.  Lance of course, often acts like Jimmy's nothing but a pest and a nuisance, but it's clear from the oneshot that despite Lance's temper and sense of entitlement, he DOES care about Jimmy. And in chapter five after get the scene where Jimmy was shot, it's Lance that reacts the strongest. Granted, all the kids react powerfully to the fact that Joker tried to kill them all, but it's Lance who breaks down sobbing over Jimmy.

Phil hasn't necessarily given us any details concerning what happened to Jimmy OR Lance once Batman rushed Jimmy to the hospital to try to save him, but I've personally always liked to think that Lance took off after Batman to be there for Jimmy. >>;

Sorrynotsorry for the feels. Left most of the original pencil lines in again, because I like the effect. *weak shrug*

ALL of the feels! (I partially blame Phil for having written such an emotionally-heavy story in Claw, mind you. Hit me hard to see all of that happen to the Juvenile Gang.)

THE FEELSSSSSS!
My friend, I did NOT see this coming

I must say, I'm very happy to hear that Claw Chapter 5 left an impression on you even after all these years .
And you are absolutely right about Lance following Batman after Jimmy is shot. He's the first to leave the Juvenile Gang, and the rest follow after (except for Olga, Kiara, and Curtis, who stick with the Joker for another few months).
I know Derby and I have been a bit dodgy about Jimmy's fate. But rest assured that we do have plans for both he and Joust later down the line XD.

I really love everything about this. It's so tender. And I applaud your decision to leave in most of the pencil lines. Something about line-pocalypse really adds emotion to an image. And the little details like the wilting appendage to Joust's helmet and the way he is clutching the bed just really kicks me where it hurts . And don't even get me started on Jimmy being just out of frame...

You can damn-well bet that I will be staring at this nonstop for the next week!
Thanks, as always, for all the effort you put into this!

To be fair, I don't think anyone saw this coming? I didn't want to tell anyone anything about what I was planning to make for you, aside from the fact there'd be a bittersweet aspect to it.

How could it not? D; You wound up getting me attached to your little band of orphans and then hit us all hard by taking away from them any sense of family or normalcy those kiddos were getting used to! Truthfully though, Jimmy being shot and only Lance showing any emotional response to that specifically on Jimmy's behalf always struck a particular bell with me. I've always figured the kids were mostly in shock anyway and they struggled to really emotionally connect with one another in a healthy manner, but the fact it was Lance, who had constantly been the most aloof in attitude to the others that responded in emotional pain to Jimmy being shot really stuck with me. Hasn't gone away since I read that chapter and I don't think it ever will.
AHAHA! I had a feeling that might be the case, but it's nice to hear that bit confirmed at least. (Oh gosh... how in the world do they even manage to stick around long enough without Joker trying to kill them again? Although, denial can be a pretty powerful thing. >>; )
I was hoping to hear something like that!

;w; I'm happy to hear this. Oooh, that's actually a pretty solid point; I hadn't thought about it before, but I can easily see where leaving in the pencil lines adds to the emotion in the piece. D8 YOU CAUGHT THE FACT THE PLUME WAS WILTING, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY THAT MAKES ME!!   I wanted to give the impression it was looking a bit worse for the wear at this point in time, but I don't think my intention and my art quite coaligned here. >>; (That blanket-clutching was actually the first thing I started drawing in this piece, believe it or not?) ;~; I wanted to put Jimmy in the frame with him, but on realizing that I had no idea where exactly he took that bullet, I figured it'd be better to just show his legs and feet under the blanket.

And you're always, always welcome Phil brother!

D; Poor thing indeed. It's a pretty heart-breaking story to read, but I'm glad that I read it.
^^~ Thank you, Maddy hon!
