Quinn sat at the piano in the auditorium, playing a melody, her fingers moving slowly, carefully across the keys. She often came here to be alone, to have time to think about what she’d done, what she wanted to do, her mistakes, basically everything that went wrong in her life since she got pregnant. Not that her life had been perfect before, but it absolutely had been turned into her worst nightmare ever since. She straightened her back when she heard the door crack open.

“I told you to leave me alone, Puck” she said, tired of him trying to fix everything when she hadn’t even figured out anything herself.

“I’m sorry, I only wanted to practice, I didn’t know you’d be here,” she heard Rachel say.

The other girl was about to leave again as Quinn turned, looking after her.

“No, please. Stay.” Quinn said and stood up from the piano bench.

Rachel’s hand dropped from the door handle and she turned back to Quinn. The girl let her head fall, her shoulders hunched, her complete figure seeming fragile and so, so tiny. Rachel walked up to her, careful to leave some space between them.

“What’s wrong, Quinn?” she asked, her eyes fixed on the other girl’s hands which were fidgeting anxiously.

“I just…” There was a sigh before Quinn continued to speak. “Everything’s ruined and I know it’s my fault.”

Her head shot up, an helpless expression on her face as she gazed at Rachel.

“I know there’s not much time until Regionals come around, but we’ll find good songs and practice - you’ll be fine. I’ll help you if you want to” Rachel tried to comfort her, but only gained a bewildered glance.

“You really think this is about Glee Club? When will you realize that there are other things in my life which are way more important to ma at the moment, Rachel? This is about Beth.”

There were tears welling up in her eyes, but she fought them back, determined not to show how she really felt. Rachel reached out, and took one of her hands into her own.

“I know about what you did, Quinn. Noah told me after he found out. And I understand you, I really do. For years it’s been my dream to know more about my mother - I love my daddies, no question, but I’ve always wondered why she gave me away, why I couldn’t stay with her, but… This is your chance, Quinn, to do the right thing. Shelby’s giving you the option to be close to your daughter and she’s giving Beth the chance to grow up knowing her mim, knowing she’s loved by you and that it was due to circumstances that you couldn’t keep her yourself. Please don’t throw this away, Quinn.”

She looked at her with her bright eyes pleading to understand, to agree to at least try to be a part of Beth’s life. The blonde nodded.

“I just don’t want her to be disappointed in me,” she confessed.

“She won’t be,” Rachel reassured her. “She’ll see how great her mom is, and she’ll be thankful that you did everything you could to guarantee her a good life.”

They smiled at each other, and suddenly Quinn pulled her in for a quick hug. “I never thought I would say that but, thank you, Rachel. For being here and telling me I’ll be doing it right.” Then she left their embrace and said “I’ll leave you alone now. Bet you’re trying to work on another amazing solo, hm?”

Quinn left Rachel who still stood on the auditorium stage, smiling.

She looked at her with her bright eyes pleading to understand, to agree to at least try to be a part of Beth’s life. The blonde nodded.

“I just don’t want her to be disappointed in me,” she confessed.

“She won’t be,” Rachel reassured her. “She’ll see how great her mom is, and she’ll be thankful that you did everything you could to guarantee her a good life.”

They smiled at each other, and suddenly Quinn pulled her in for a quick hug. “I never thought I would say that but, thank you, Rachel. For being here and telling me I’ll be doing it right.” Then she left their embrace and said “I’ll leave you alone now. Bet you’re trying to work on another amazing solo, hm?”

Quinn left Rachel who still stood on the auditorium stage, smiling.
