History:

Saber was one of three designs that enter the service in later Cardassian-Federation conflict. Starfleet desperately needed new class of ships to counter increasing threat from Cardassian side, to counter new versions of the dreaded Galor class cruisers (later destroyers). While Norway was created to act as light carrier and assault ship, Steamrunner as torpedo cruiser, Saber was designed for high speed attacks. It was often deployed in wolfpack tactics of three or four ships.

Vulcan admiral Solak saw full potention of this ships, he believed that their small size and modularity allows them to be outfited for any kind of missions, with excpetion for exploration since they do not have potential for it. During the war with Cardassians this ships attacked in pack strong Cardassian formations, dealing great damage and destruction to Cardassian ships with very few losses on their own side. None of the Sabers participate in Wolf 359 battle, first battle against the Borg, as all of them were deployed on borders and protecting outer worlds. However class was heavily used during the short Klingon-Federation war, Battle of sector 001 and Dominion war. Over four hundred of them were lost during this wars, however they prove to be quit effective against Klingon Bird of Preys, and Dominion attack ships.

Saber continue to serve Starfleet in large number and was one of the classes that replace the old versatible Miranda class ships. Saber had many modifications and variants over the years, most of them were different setups of armament, while some carries pulse weapons, and phaser beams, some were used as gun boats with several micro launchers for micro photon torpedoes. Due large number of them and shipyards that serves them and builds them.
